Post-Lap Stomach Pain?

Hi there,

I had endo removed via laproscopy 5 days ago and I am really concerned about one symptom in particular. The gas pains from my shoulders are gone but I am having intense stomach cramps. It feels like I have been kicked in the gut and had the air knocked out of me. I'm sure anxiety and constipation are partly to blame, but I'm so confused why my stomach (like the actual organ) is taking such a beating. The nurse told me to increase my pain meds but this doesn't help at all, and just makes me feel nauseous. Has anyone had a similar sensation? Is there any way some gas could be trapped in my stomach or abdomen still even though it's out of my shoulders?

Any help would be greatly appreciated... I am really anxious and it's affecting my ability to eat.

Your stomach sits just below your diaphragm kind of to your right side, so any pain there will feel more in the chest. The abdomen having lots of organs in can sometimes make it difficult to specifically pinpoint pain as there's less organ specific nerves. Usually when organs are healing / injured / swollen the surrounding fluid in the abdomen (not much) will collect around that organ to protect it, this can sometimes make it feel painful and swollen.

It could be if it's your stomach that the painkillers have irritated it specifically NSAIDs like Ibuprofen; I have this so my GP has given me Omazeprole to take with them. It helps with the sicky feeling too.

Anxiety won't help your stomach as it causes the release of more acid so irritating the stomach. You could try peppermint or chamomile tea to help calm you and your stomach. Also look into aromatherapy if you have a diffuser or oil burner; lavender and chamomile together work well.

As for constipation; yes that won't help as your all backed up causing everything to stop flowing / working well. You can talk to your pharmacy and get over the counter laxatives, at the same time drink lots of water and fruits for fibre to help soften it all.

Hope that helps xx
