I had a long laparoscopy a week ago in which a lot of adhesions were found - my left ovary was very immobile and had stuck to my pelvic wall and bowel. My concern is that following surgery the adhesions will simply reform. No endometriosis was found though it was found on my previous laparoscopy 19 months ago when I was diagnosed with stage 2 endo. The dye test was done and apparently would not go through my fallopian tubes, which is obviously very upsetting. Presumably they're blocked with adhesions but a clear explanation was not given. Has anyone had a similar experience?
Anyone have experience of adhesions found... - Endometriosis UK
Anyone have experience of adhesions found in laparoscopy?
So sorry you are suffering with adhesions.
To me, Im no expert, I get confused with the differential terms adhesions and endometriosis patches....my bowel and ovaries were pinned to my pelvic cavity (Im assuming with adhesions?)
To my pelvic wall....my bowel was excised of endometriosis (surely the adhesions are excised also)
....
To say no endometriosis was NOT found but adhesions were (adhesions form from old healing scar tissue I believe) ...its very confusing to the lay person.
In essence, could we be in pain as much from stuck organs adhered to us than patches of endometriosis, does endometriosis attach to adhesions also? The more Op's we have the more chance adhesions can form, but how and can we stop our scars getting adhesions?
Its all very grey to me and Id love someone to explain the difference to me.
Im in with my surgeon on December 21st and will ask him then. I believe I have symptoms returning whether its more adhesions or more endometriosis God knows!
Anyone more educated on this site if they could please step in and answer your query that would be great.
Helly.
Thanks for your reply - sounds like we have similar issues so it would be great to hear what your surgeon says - do keep me updated and good luck. Meanwhile I've asked my GP to refer me to a bsge endo specialist to see if they can shed any more light on my issues. My last surgeon gave me zero advice moving forward and after my last misdiagnosis I'm worried about trusting him again.
You can ask to be referred to a pelvic pain specialist. They would operate on adhesions as well as other gynae conditions and often work jointly with colorectal surgeons.
Adhesions are often linked to endometriosis but not always. They can result from any kind of pelvic trauma eg surgery or infection and some people seem more prone to them.
I had adhesions linking my ovary, pelvic wall and sigmoid colon removed a year ago as part of a total hysterectomy after years of pain.
Check the pelvicpain.org.uk website for details of specialist clinics.
