So I was diagnosed earlier this year with Endometriosis in the cervix and rectum, after years of very heavy and painful periods. Just before insisting I be referred to Gynae, my Doctor put me on the Cerelle pill which apparently is meant to stop your periods completely but for me it made my periods constant, very heavy and painful.
Once diagnosed by Gynae, I was put on the Prostap injections for 7 months, which completely stopped my periods and I was able to put up with the hot flushes and occasional headaches. However, I had to come off it due to the risk of osteoporosis. My consultant suggested I try Cerelle again as due to Prostap working so well and my ovaries going to sleep, she was confident Cerelle would work this time around. I was reluctant but thought I'd give it another go. She said if needed, she was happy for me to take 2 pills per day until the bleeding settled down. Have any of you tried this? Did it work?
My last injection of Prostap was in June and I then went on Cerelle immediately. The last 3 weeks I've been bleeding on and off, both from the vaginally and bottom and this week they are heavier and painful but not quite as bad as the time I went on Cerelle before. I am only taking 1 pill per day, as I have been experiencing headaches recently and I'm concerned that if I take 2 pills per day my headaches will worsen.
Both my Gynae and Colorectal Consultant have said that the next option is a laparoscopy to see if they can find out more but as my endo is at the top of the cervix spreading through to my bowel/rectum, it is likely that if they decid I need to have the major op, I will require a full hysterectomy and bowel resection (1 in 100 chance of death) and with 3 kids I'm not willing to risk that. I have a Gynae review appt in January. Right now I think I'd prefer to come off Cerelle and put up with 10 days of hell every 3 weeks!
Any advice and tips welcomed.
