Just got off of long term continued use of the pill.Never again! 4 PE blood clots .

Is it normal after end of period 3 days later to bleed again?

Morning Marissa yes it’s certainly normal for me. I can have a clot then have no blood for a few days, have a couple of days period, then stop, then start a period a few days later. Sometimes you don’t know if you are coming or going with your periods! 😏

They're classed as breakthrough bleeds when on the pill, or inbetween packs as the reduction in hormones from stopping the pill causes the uterus lining to shed. A true period is the result of a failed implant following ovulation where the natural hormones cause the lining to shed.

The breakthrough bleeds can happen at any time, however a pill that suits you shouldn't cause this, you should only bleed when there's a gap in the packs, or placebo pills, there may be some spotting or light bleeds.

The random breakthrough bleeds can be a sign of something more going on; I was put on the pill, long term 4 month back to back to help with period symptoms (I didn't know what endo was, and neither did my GP), after a few years it seemed to stop working and I'd get random bleeds, headaches, cramps etc; the pill wasn't working. Further investigation and with pushing the doctors, they suspected endo. Endo in large enough amounts it produces its own oestrogen which causes complications with the pill; so even though the pill is used as a treatment to slow endo growth, it can still grow thus will eventually feel like the pill isn't working. Just being honest.

Hope that helps explain a little xx

ah I wasn't sure if you meant you've stopped it for a break after being on it for say 6 months continuously. i guess long term is different for different people lol!

Hey Marissa, I think people may be getting confused - you're referring to 4 pulmonary embolism blood clots caused by the pill aren't you? From what I can see from the replies people are thinking you're referring to clots in your period. You must have been terrified. Was it the combined pill you were on? As for periods being erratic after coming off the pill - my (non endo) friend came off the pill last year and it took 3-4 months for her cycle to become normal again. I'd speak to your doctor but in her case her gp was ignorant to it but she's been like clockwork once she got past 4 months off the pill so it was clear to her! I'm so sorry you've had such a horrendous time on top of endo xx
