I had major excision surgery in July. I’ve had two periods since then... first the first 2 days I would describe them as heavy.. then the 3rd day just goes to brown sludge. Does anyone else have this? I must add I’ve never had particularly heavy periods..... but they have got lighter xx

Consultant told me that you can have periods but nothing comes out as it stays inside due to the endo. I was complaining of having period cramps but no blood coming out. When I do bleed it’s normally brown, red then back brown. He said that’s old blood when it’s brown. Hope this helps x

Your periods after a lap can be all over the place or not at all, or all the time, everyone responds differently to surgery.

Basically the uterus doesn't like being moved around and prodded, so it can take time to move back to it's normal position and recover from the trauma of surgery. As our bodies have also been through the surgery our hormones are all over the place; stress of recovery, this can make our cycles go a bit odd, and affects our sleep, tiredness, eating, temperature etc - all hormones have a key part to play in keeping our body stable.

It can take 4 to 6 months for your body to recover completely from the op; cycles can take a while as each hormone plays a part so it'll need a few cycles to correct itself. Immediately after the op your body is on automatic with the op being during your first cycle; this period therefore may just feel the same as before. The next few could be heavier as the body is recovering. Some women have lighter spotting ones as the body isn't sure how to respond / ovulation hasn't started back up. Usually after about 4 cycles is pretty much how it will be going forward.

If you're not sure, book an appointment with your specialist at the 4 month mark (most won't see you before as you're still recovering, some will at the 2 weeks to check up) you'll be able to have a chat about what to expect personally for you going forward.

Hope that helps xx

That’s been so helpful thank you so much.

I get really cross with myself worrying especially as it’s such early days after my operation.

I need to relax and enjoy my life than letting this disease rule it.

Thank you so much again, fab advice 💜
