Endo and the bowel

Hi, I have recently had a sigmoidoscopy and they said everything looked healthy just slightly inflamed although still awaiting biopsy results. Been diagnosed with IBS but been having more problems including occasional blood in stools. Constantly bloated can vary dress size from morning to evening. Has anyone had issues with Endo and the bowel? How do you know it’s connected? I’m receiving no treatment for it as they gave me tablets for ibs but they didn’t work. I had a laparoscopy 2 years ago, and then 2 years before that. Not sure if it’s worth bothering the doctors about or just get on with it.

Hallo! Do your symptoms coincide with your period? That’s normally a clue for determining whether something is connected to endo.

Best of luck!

Hi I have endo attaching my ovary to my sigmoid colon and then attaching the ovary to the back of my uterus. With endo it tends to be worse around your period and sometimes ovulation.

I find for me I can tell my bowel was involved before diagnosis as the period cramping affects how my bowel movements happen. So for example I can get a period cramp and instantly feel like I need to pass something when they may not always be something there, this has in the past caused stress on my bowel causing it to bleed and for me to end up with blood in my stools.

They also tried to tell me I had ibs before my endo diagnosis. I pushed for a laparoscopy because of my pain levels and that’s when it was found. I dropped 1 1/2 - 2 dress sizes.

I think if you’re symptoms are bothersome and painful and effect your ability to function everyday as normal and therefore effect your quality of life then you should definitely bother the drs.

I have learnt the last two yrs having had a diagnosis that having endo and being in pain -for me -is not really living it’s making do and getting through. But that’s my view and how it has effected my life - it’s stopped me doing so many things, going out, spending times with friends and family it’s cost me relationships and most of all effected my fertility and meant I can’t to the one thing I want and that some others find easy and that’s make my husband and I parents.

I hope this helps as I feel I waffled a little but I wish you all the best and lots of luck xxx

Thank you this definitely helps! After the lapro did they remove it and did it improve? I’m wondering if they’ll bother giving me one as had two already. still awaiting biopsy but it’s been 5 weeks so if results had anything I expect they’d be in touch. In which case the only thing I can relate it to is Endo. Booked doctors appointment but a month before they have one so we will see! I only have a period 4 times a year as been advise to take pill for 3 months straight and have a break. Is significantly worse at that time but bad anyway

So I found out after my lap and doing my own research that when I had it they lasered my endo rather than excised it so for me wasn’t much difference in pain levels. Am hoping that with my next one they will excuse what they can while I’m under general anaesthetic. Fingers crossed for you and personally keep pushing no one wants to be in pain it’s your body’s way of saying something is wrong. Xx
