Hi! I spent some time at the surgical assessment unit last month thanks to my Gp, and ended up being referred to the gynae as a result. Endometriosis was mentioned by her and I’ve got my first official gynaecologist appointment in December.
What can I expect to happen? How quickly did you get sorted after your first appt? How long and how many appts until a lap?
I’m at the end of my tether, gone home from work again. I’m now experiencing hip pain month long, rather than just on my period. But it’s now sending shooting pains down my leg and foot. That’s the only symptoms I get but I’ve never felt pain like it- even with codine I can’t sleep and often reduced to tears

I had my gynae appointment in April, and my pre op in July and my lap is booked for next month so it feels really long, I’ve been suffering for years too!
At the gynae appointment they will ask you questions about your symptoms and look at the notes your gp sent over and then you will be examined and have a few swabs if you can tolerate it. After my exam she said she was sure it was endo and referred me for a lap. Before my gynae appointment I did have a ultrasound appointment too, so maybe ask your gp for a referral in the mean time? The gynae was gonna book one for me if I hadn’t had one so if you can get one before the appointment it might shave off some time? Feel free to drop me a message if you have any questions xxx
Thanks for your reply! I’ve alrea had ultrasound on my womb and another one on my hip (where the pain is as I was sure it was rheumatoid arthritis from my Nana!) So following my brief conversation in hospital I not think I’ll need another ultrasound. My gp didn’t send notes, I didn’t get a typical referral as I ended up in hospital surgical assessments to rule out appendix, so it was a gynaecologist that came to see me there what referred me! But its all good to know! I’m meant to be going travelling in May so hopefully I can be fixed before!!
They will just ask you questions about your symptoms.
I had to see 7 gynaes and a private one in order to get a lap so it took around a year. After my final gynae appointment it was a 9 month wait for my lap.
However don’t get your hopes up that this gynae will be amazing and suggest a lap straight away as surgery is last resort. I had them suggesting lose weight (when I’m not overweight), try a million different contraceptive pills and painkillers. Eventually my parents paid for a private consultant who got me the lap on the nhs xxx
Eeesh, how old are you, if you don’t mind my asking? I don’t really want to go back on contraception as I came off to let my body recover in case I want to start a family in the near future. Not that I do at the moment but hey, my hormones are messed up too! Glad to hear you finally got sorted though
Atleast you got therein the end! Hopefully I can skip the medication/contraception stage as I’m 30 next year so I’ll just mention I’m looking to start a family soon if I can!
