Hi I went for my coil fitting today with the consultant, was painful and I have a high pain threshold and they said how well I was doing. Anyway they tried about 3 tes and then decided to do a scope and have a look and tried again. But unfortunately he still couldn't do it and i was shaking in pain. But just saying they and get it in.
So we gave up and need to see the other consultant in a few week and see if he will do me a lap again but I have a complicated history with bladder and mitrofanoff.
But the consultant said today either way they will do coil under a ga! But hopefully the other one agrees to the lap etc.
Has anyone else had failed coils or could put in under a ga or other means?x

Go to your local sexual health clinic, they deal with coils on a daily basis. Explain what you have went through and they will be able to assist if they can. I highly recommend going to see them. X
I had mine put in when I had a lap to remove ovarian cysts two years ago. Cysts turned out to be endometriomas. My consultant said because I hadn't had kids, it would be easier to insert the coil while I was under ga.
Its really helped me with pain, and I don't get periods anymore so no bleeding. Hope you manage to get it sorted xx
I had mine put in under ga, as I was in my 50s, had never had children, and the gynaecologist said that my cervix was tiny and it would be very painful (if not impossible) otherwise. I'd been made to stop the pill at 50, and my periods were getting more frequent, longer, as well as more and more painful.
NB In the end, I saw the Gynae, privately, about my Endo (a friend recommended him), as my GPs were dragging their feet and saying the pain would stop with the menopause - when there was no sign of it ever happening!
Although I had to pay for 2 consultations with the Gynae, he arranged for the insertion under anaesthetic with the NHS, and they removed a benign polyp, plus some endo, at the same time.
The whole procedure was fine, I was up and about in 1-2 days, had very little pain, and I was fine with the mirena for over 5 years, with no pain or periods by about 3 months after the insertion. By the time I had it removed, I had gone thru the menopause.
Yes! I had 4 failed attempts at fitting the coil. Once at GP surgery, twice at special sexual health clinic, and one in hospital (no anaesthetic!) so finally I had it done under GA to days ago, and a Lap at the same time and ..success!!
This is good to hear, all my trys were done in the same app, no local or anything and a scope in the end. But they said they would do it under a ga, seemed a bit much just to put a coil in. But hopefully they will do a lap as well, got to wait and find out as had so much previous surgery's done else where. So port holes can't go over the normal bits and need to go over the spleen x
Hiya. I had the coil fitted at the beginning of September. I was also having a polyp removed at the same time so they used a local anaesthetic. I think they were going to give it to me via an injection but I explained how nervous I was about the procedure and needles and they said they could use a gel instead. I have a low pain threshold (I think) and I’d say this helped. So maybe ask for a local anaesthetic? I hope you get it sorted soon!
