Was wondering if anyone could help me out with some advice or similar experiences. I had a hysterectomy a few years ago and then had an oophorectomy in February this year, both due to endometriosis. I started on HRT (oestrogel) immediately after the oophorectomy and had no menopausal symptoms other than slight insomnia which went away when my consultant suggested an extra pump of oestrogel before going to bed.
I’ve now moved to America and I can only get patches included on my healthcare insurance (realising how incredible the NHS is now!!). Since having these I have had headaches every day, awful insomnia, hot flushes, been very emotional and generally don’t feel right at all - I’m assuming these are all menopausal symptoms. I’m not sure whether I need to give my body time to adjust or whether the dose is completely wrong (it’s hard to compare a dose of gel with a patch).
Thanks!

I had a total hysterectomy in April and they found I had endometriosis but think they took it all away. Because of the endo I haven't taken any HRT or oestrogen replacement. Endo feeds on the oestrogen so I am hoping by avoiding supplements any remaining endo will die. Positive thinking .......
The symptoms you describe are similar to menopause. I think every experience is different. I had started to get little warm flushes before the surgical menopause but now they are definitely hot! Insomnia is worse and my moods fluctuate. Although when I am not down I feel better than before the hysterectomy. I am starting to think it is the hormones still in my system. I still get hunger cravings like I did before a period, and the mood seems to be around the same time...... hence my thinking
I would come of the drugs because they don't seem to be helping, or at least giving you the same symptoms as someone who isn't on any drugs.
I have looked into a diet for your blood type and am trying that. As part of that, a little protein snack in the evening, like a yoghurt, or some cottage cheese helps prevent sugar level dips and reduces the hot flushes in the night. I am trying this and when I remember to do it, it does have a positive impact. Plus if I keep busy in the evening, avoid drinks after 10 for instance, have my little snack and take two Co-codamol my hot flushes and therefore sleep is better. Worth a try.
I find I get a hot flush in the night when my body needs a wee that is why I am trying to cut fluids out later at night. Nights out drinking completely ruins my sleep but hey, you gotta live!
