Just thought I would share this amusing and slightly awkward moment with you all! I was in town today and my tummy has been really sore and bloated, a lady I knew came up to me and said "so your pregnant again!! " to which my reply was "no I'm just bloated!! " I admit things have not been great with tummy pain, bloating, leg/hip pain etc but didn't realise I looked pregnant! Has this happened to anyone else? ! Happy weekend all!! Xx
When someone thinks your pregnant because... - Endometriosis UK
When someone thinks your pregnant because your so bloated! 🙈
Hi Dawn84 how rude of her to assume that you were pregnant! I get the usual “so do you want kids”...... been asked by a certain friend if I am pregnant & it made me feel awkward especially as she also has Endometriosis x
Oh no, well I hope she was more embarrassed by your response than you were by her question 😏
My kids say I look pregnant when I get really bloated.. but to be honest I do look about 6 months pregnant when it’s bad and with the hip and lower back symptoms I feel it too 😂
You do just have to laugh it off, sometimes people just don’t think before they speak.
Hope you’re feeling better and less bloated soon x
She looked horrified! I thought it was quite funny to be honest!! My kids also say I look pregnant 😂 the joys of endo and IBS eh! Thank you. Have had a rock n roll sat night with a peppermint tea and hot water bottle which had eased things!! Xx
I constantly look pregnant! My favourite jeans are two sizes too big on a rare good day and then yesterday I couldn’t even do them up! I was really sad but we were going to IKEA so I figured maybe someone will help us with lifting things lol. I get it a lot at the gym too but I try to tell myself people are probably thinking “look at that bad ass pregnant lady lifting weights” lol. If anyone does comment I say “actually it’s endo” in a friendly way which leads to a little more raised awareness.
It totally depresses me though!
Oh, it happened to me quite regularly. How many times i got offered the priority seat on the tube... I got used to it. Since the last op is much better, but started to wear more loose clothes.
It happened to me last week! Post hysterectomy bloating made me look about six months pregnant! I knew I looked that way and even a loose jumper wasn’t hiding it. I didn’t feel too bad when someone said something... I knew what it looked like and at 36..... they are more likely to think you’re pregnant than recovering from that op!
I reckon the lady was mortified...
I work in the NHS and if my uniform is a bit tight or even worse I can't wear it the pregnancy rumours start. I think I must have the gestation of a few elephants by now - haha. I do also get patients asking when my baby is due which is a little more embarrassing but like you I have to laugh it off and explain. Does get tiring saying the same line with a smile though - hope everyone has lots of emotional support as it's not easy to reiterate with a smile - especially to the same person xx
I've been asked so many times if I'm pregnant by colleagues or family, or been offered a seat on the tram etc. I always found it hard to laugh off because 1. I'm conscious about my weight as it is and 2. Infertility issues make me sensitive to the issue too, like I wish this was pregnancy and not painful bloating from a chronic disease that's making me infertile!!
I've found that cutting out wheat and fizzy drinks and other bloating food has helped control my bloating though. I've also stopped wearing trousers or anything with a tight waistband because that really exacerbates the bloating.
