I've just got a cancellation appointment for a diagnostic lap for tomorrow which I am really happy about. But I've taken ibuprofen in the last 5 days and it says on my pre op information to not take this 5 days before the laparoscopy.
I've only taken about 3 tablets but I'm worried they are going to turn round tomorrow and tell me they can't do the operation. I asked the women on the phone but she said she didn't know and I would have to wait till tomorrow to find out. Does anyone know the likely hood of this happening, or has anyone done the same thing?
Thanks

I think it's got something to do with bleeding. I'm sure at the level you've been taking it, it would be fine but of course, just let them know. The surgeon will come and talk to you before the surgery and a few nurses too so you'll have plenty of opportunity.
Just remember- people will be having emergency surgeries all the time that have taken it. It's probably just the ideal to not have taken it. I don't remember ever being asked if I had taken it so I'm sure it's not a high risk thing- like, they asked me about 20 times if I'd eaten or drank water before hand.
Surgery is nerve wracking and I'm sure getting a last minute appointment like this is quite a lot to deal with. Just try to trust that it will all be ok. The surgeons and all the team do know what they're doing. I was so nervous before my lap and it was all totally fine- I felt extremely well looked after.
That is so true about people having emergency surgeries, didn't even think of that! Good to know they didn't ask you either. I'm sure it's fine.
Honestly I am so happy to have a cancellation, I phoned up last week and they told me I wouldn't be getting one until at least mid September, so this is ideal. I'm just worried they are gunna take it away again!
Thanks a lot for replying and I hope your doing well after your surgery
Hiya great news about the op but I appreciate it must be a bit of a shock to be facing surgery a lot sooner than you thought. Last thing you need is to turn up tomorrow and be sent away again so keep phoning the hospital until someone who knows can tell you it’s definitely okay. I was in agony on my period before one of my surgeries so was on mefenamic acid which is stronger than ibuprofen and it was fine! Never been asked about NSAIDs pre surgery before. Best of luck for the op and a speedy recovery!!! Xx
I spoke to the secretary but she sounded rushed of her feet and said she wasn't sure and that I would have to find out tomorrow. I'm just going to go and hope for the best I think. At least I'll know what to expect next time if they don't do go through with it!
It is a bit of a shock but I am so relieved to have an appointment! Good to know they didn't ask about the NSAIDS and that it was fine for you. I am probably just worrying about nothing. She said she'd written it down in my notes so hopefully if theres a problem they will get in touch.
Thanks so much for replying and I hope you are in less pain now that you've had surgery x
I’ve never heard of anything about not taking ibuprofen before an op. I work in a children’s hospital and they get given paracetamol and ibuprofen before every operation xx
Oh weird.... I wonder why the nurse at the pre op wrote it on my medications to not take......maybe he was just being super cautious. Good to know Thankyou! xx
