Looking for advice post lap please

Hi Ladies

I am 5 week’s post op with my second laparoscopy. The first time was three years ago and I had laser surgery, this time I have had a fair bit of excision surgery so I understand that this time is a bigger op than last time. I was also under anaesthetic longer than last time but I’m really struggling with a few things that I didn’t experience last time.

I have always prided myself on the fact that I am a fairly chilled person even when I have severe symptoms; I tend to go quite rather than stroppy. But since my op this time, I am finding I have very limited patience with things that would ordinarily not bother me at all and this makes me feel emotional as it is completely out of character and I don’t feel like myself. I am also finding that the fatigue and nausea symptoms are much worse than before the op and no difference with the endo pain.

Has anyone else experienced this following a lap with excision surgery? Is this all normal? How long is it likely to last?

Thank you in advance.

I might not be of much help here but I am two weeks post lap and I can definitely say I’m there with you, I also have picked up what should be a simple common cold and it has absolutely set me back. But I am nauseous all the time and the amount of times I’ve snapped at my partner I’m surprised he hasn’t ran out the door yet even over little things such as him not telling me what he wants for dinner has me in a ball of tears. Sending hugs and hoping it gets better for you, although a cliched line your body probably is still recovering a lot as it’s bigger surgery than we think and emotions are bound to be fried with being so fatigued too.

You’re doing great no matter how you react! Xx

Thank you so much for your reply and I’m sorry to hear you are feeling the same, it’s pretty poo. I didn’t feel like this last time so it’s really taken me by surprise this time and it’s such a horrible feeling. I hope you feel better soon as well and your cold shifts quickly as that is doubly rubbish xx

You’ve been through a major surgery and life event so be gentle with yourself and give yourself time to process and heal.

I think it’s to be expected to be feeling the effects of the excision at 5 weeks, and for this to feel like endo symptoms. I experienced fatigue, pain and just feeling fragile (although I didn’t want to admit it) for maybe 8-9 weeks or longer? Nausea definitely not though — that was over for me in a matter of 2 days, can’t help you there. Best wishes xx
