You poor thing. I am taking a GNRH injection (decapeptyl) and I had a terrible time for the first few weeks. It was made worse - in my opinion - by the fact the doctor told me it would help... so I was so worried and confused when it didn’t!

I am just over six weeks in now and am really starting to feel better - definitely turned a corner after about four weeks. I take amitryptaline and pregabalin for pain day and night but today I got to 4pm before needing any other pain relief (previously on co codamol four times a day... have been winding down).

I am still getting regular pains in my neck and headaches but these are bearable vs endo pain.

I had a few massive rants on here about it all... I remember it well.

It’s really hard in hospital- if you can, ask the consultant on the ward round as they are in charge of your care.

I hope you feel better soon. X

Thanks kangalou. Im actually still in the hospital and fully monitored by the doctors here. Funny how i didnt have periods for 6months as i was on provera pills and then the injection. Told it was normal side effect for period to start for a while after the injection. Very stressful times. Trying to keep positive. Doctors are planning treatments and urgent op if i get worser which i am. Hopefully you will get well soon and have no pains.

Hello Hewfer, sorry you are having a bit of a tough time at the moment. GnRH Analogues/Agonists cause a “flare” of symptoms in the first few weeks that you take them and it can be a bit of a rough ride. However, it should then suppress your oestrogen levels and consequently your ending symptoms.

Do you know which brand of GnRH Analogue/Agonist you are on? If you do then you can look the drug up here: medicines.org.uk/emc

This website provides all the official patient leaflets and “Special Product Characteristics” for all UK drugs and details side effects such as this initial “flare”.

If you are on a ward then you can always ask the nursing staff for extra painkillers etc. in dealing with this “flare” - if anyone queries your request you can show them the Special Product Characterists leaflet (which offers some advice to medical professionals on how to support patients experiencing troublesome side effects).

Best of luck, x X x

Hello again Hewfer, this is the SpC for Prostap:

medicines.org.uk/emc/produc...

I’m sure they’ll keep a close eye on you and sometimes just knowing that what you are experiencing are known and expected side effects can help you cope with them until they settle.

Really hope they get a good treatment plan in place for and that you are feeling a bit better soon, x X x

Hiya Hewfer, the injection will increase hormones first so make the pain and flare up worse and then settle down. Takes a good 3-4 weeks to work initially. Hope you feel better soon. Once mine kicked in I felt so much better!
