Hip and pelvic pain

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone had experienced pelvic and hip pain on around day 20 of their cycle? Today I’ve had a sharp stabbing pain in what feels like my left ovary and now it is a very sharp ache in the whole left side of my pelvis and hip and now it’s radiating down my left leg.

A little back story on me, I’m currently waiting to have a laparoscopy to diagnose endometriosis. I’ve always had very heavy and painful periods which cause me to be pretty much bed bound for around two weeks but I also have a very irregular cycle (at one point I didn’t have a period for three years, which was pretty great). Because my cycle is so irregular, it’s taken a long time for doctors and myself to put all my symptoms together and come up with endometriosis.

Anyway, I’m waffling! I just wanted to say I’m pretty new to this whole endometriosis thing and wanted to know whether this hip and pelvic pain could be symptom of endo or something unrelated? Should I mention it to a doctor if it continues or just wait until my laparoscopy?

Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you for listening. 🙂

Hi, I get that. Apparently it’s common with adenomyosis which is like endometriosis but in the lining of the womb - nothing can be done about that except for hysterectomy which I’m not doing yet as I’m still in my 30s and have no children. You may have either or both (which I did). Also, endometriosis can get pretty much everywhere so it’s not unlikely that it could cause the pain you’re talking about. Not checking you out due to irregular periods is such a cop out though! It’s a symptom of endometriosis! I would mention the pain.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve never heard of adenomyosis so I’ll look into that. I’m 25 with no children so I hope it doesn’t come down to a hysterectomy.

I know, I’ve been fobbed off by doctors since I was 16 because I’m technically underweight according to bmi so they just put my lack of periods down to that and told me to put some weight on (which I find very difficult as I’m naturally small). I’ve finally found a gynaecologist who looked further than my weight and told me almost right away she thought it was endometriosis (I’ve found a lot of doctors are reluctant to even mention endo). I just can’t wait for this laparoscopy to be over and done with and to finally have some answers. Thanks for the advice! Xx

No problem - I always think bmi is a bit of a nonsense, I’m quite curvy and was always on the boarder of overweight even though I was a size 8-10 and 5’6. That being said, did they ever check you for hyperthyroidism? Thyroid problems often go hand in hand with endometriosis as both are autoimmune issues. There’s lots of symptom checkers online - thyroid uk tend to be good, but it’s another thing that they’re reluctant to diagnose unfortunately so u have to do your research. I have a similar story they wouldn’t look at me from the age of 18 until somebody finally listened and accepted that throwing up every month wasn’t normal ( by then I was about 32). At least they’re seeing you now, that’s really good 😊 good luck x

I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism when I was 16 and all the problems with my periods began but they said it’d sort itself out with age (my thyroid did seem to settle down but my periods definitely haven’t). If I had known more back then I definitely would have taken it further, looking back it’s crazy how many signs there were pointing to endo and how they were all missed!

I’ve had doctors tell me that BMI is a load of rubbish in the same breath they’ve told me that my lack of periods is due to being underweight. 🙄

Thank you for all your advice and listening to me moan! I’m glad you managed to find someone who finally listened and I hope that they helped you find a way to manage your symptoms. Xx

Hi, I’ve had lots of tests and all have come back clear of infection thankfully. I was on the pill for a while but I also found it made my symptoms a lot worse. My doctor has suggested the Mirena coil after I’ve had my laparoscopy so I think I’m going to give that a try. Have you asked your doctors about the coil? X
