Hi lovelies, hoping to get some advice. I’ve had chronic pelvic pain for 2 years now, finally saw a gynaecologist who put me on the combined contraceptive pill which has reduced my pain a lot. However the gynaecologist says my pain isn’t gynaecological despite the pill reducing my pain. They offered me a laparoscopy but I’m hesitant to have surgery. On the other hand I don’t want to miss the chance for a diagnosis. If you have any advice or similar experiences I’d be very grateful as I’m unsure what my next steps should be. Thank you 🩷

Laparoscopy for pelvic pain
Hey, how come they’re offering you surgery if your pain is reduced and if they don’t think it’s gynaecological what do they think it is? I was told that typically surgery is meant to be symptom driven because it’s not a cure and it carries risk. So it’s about weighing up the quality of life vs the risks of surgery. Obviously if you’re seeking a diagnosis that’s something different but they can sometimes pick it up with scans too, have you had an ultrasound or MRI?
Thanks for your reply ❤️ The laparoscopy would be to diagnose or rule out any gynaecological conditions. They’ve said they’re not sure what’s causing the pain and that it could be neurological. But for me if the contraceptive pill has an effect it suggests it’s gynaecological. I’ve had ultrasounds but not an MRI so could ask for that instead
hey! I think the surgery is a good idea just to find out what is actually going on! I’ve had 2 now, and it’s not too bad. They helped in the long run
