Can I take cocodamol night before laparoscopy?

Hi

I’m having my laparoscopy tomorrow am. Can I take cocodamol tonight? I was in a lot of pain today so worried I won’t sleep if I don’t.

I’ve been waiting so long for the laparoscopy I’m freaking out about doing something that means they won’t do the procedure.

Should say I spoke to GP last week and he told me to stop taking naproxen but said I could still take cocodamol. I’m in a mild panic about the procedure tbh so over thinking everything.

Thanks for asking. Didn’t get on great, to be honest. the procedure itself was fine and everyone at hospital has been very good.

The consultant said the endometriosis is severe so they weren’t able to remove any of it. I’ll have to go to see specialists at a different hospital.

I had a dye test and the dye went through my right side but it sounds like my left side-where I get most of the pain-is a bit of a mess.

There are adhesions on my bowel and they couldn’t see my ovary because it’s under my bowel. They also said there might be cysts.

I’ve to go for an MRI at this hospital.

Stayed in overnight because I was in quite a lot of pain, had a lot of morphine and my temp was a bit high. But tbh it wasn’t as bad as my last period pain.

I’m not surprised by the outcome but it wasn’t what I was hoping for either. My pain has gone from 2 days a month to every day in the past couple of months.

GP put me back on the pill because last two periods ended with me in A&E.

Supposed to be going on holiday in about 6 weeks and just want to be able to enjoy it or at least some of it.

The consultant said I could get injections to mimic menopause while I wait to go to other hospital. I know a lot of people have bad side effects though so will have to weigh up pros and cons. Haven’t been able to work for over two months though so might have to try.

Consultant also said slim chance I could still get pregnant naturally but I’m not sure I can take the pain of the periods to try. Also might be my imagination but she didn’t look terribly hopeful when she said it. I’m nearly 38.

I was always concerned that it might be difficult for me to have children so it’s not something I’ve ever totally set my heart on-probably to avoid disappointment.

Sorry for epic response. Feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Hi Ferns, suggest you get your condition checked via a BGSE Center. If you are based in the U.K. Have you thought of IVF? I do appreciate you said you don’t want to go through the pain of your periods. Maybe worth checking? If you can manage it. Or consider using egg donor? It all depends on what you feel is right for you.

Back to the BGSE Center you can go to see them via private appointment first to quicken your case and ask to be referred back into the NHS for your procedure and most importantly ask if you can be put on the cancellation list. I am shocked and appalled they didn’t even bother removing some of your endometriosis. Not sure what they were doing routing round if they didn’t know what they were doing.

I was trying to be positive but realistic before the procedure so wasn’t thinking I would be 100% better but thought they’d be able to do something to reduce symptoms.

The hospital I am being referred to is on the BGSE list which is good. Didn’t realise I could get appointment privately though. I’ll look into this.

My pain concern at the moment is pain management. I’m just finding it so hard living with constant pain and am worried about job etc.

I don’t think it helps that most of my family were like oh well you’ll get this procedure done and then you’ll be fine after a few weeks.

IVF is definitely something to consider.

Dear Fern my daughter has stage 4 endometriosis. The surgeons said it was the worst case they had ever seen. Getting an actual diagnosis was horrendous. She has endured several ops in the last few months. On a positive side she is doing quite well at the minute. You may be entitled to free IVF because of your condition. Hope you feel better soon xx

I’m sorry to hear your daughter has had to go through so many ops but it’s really good to hear she’s feeling better now.

I’m trying to remain positive. At least it’s good to have a diagnosis and know why I’ve been in so much pain.
