Pain below ribs shifting from left to right

Hi all,

I had a Laparoscopy with excision on 16th March. I’m recovered ish but still experience pains here and there. I wonder if any of you has experienced pains under your ribs, on both sides at different times, post- Laparoscopy and endo removal?

Is this pain normal?!

xx

Please go get it looked at - it could be as simple as trapped air. As in during your procedure or it could be PID? Do you have any other symptoms? Does your pain go away with pain killers?? I have PID now after my second round of IVF and it started like this.

To be honest just below the ribs sounds like gas pain!! But I had pain in my entire abdo area and it is often a cause after surgery. I also had PID after my surgery!

Hope you find out what it is and it gets fixed soon!!! ❤️

Hi Minchoo! Thanks so much for your reply. What’s PID?! Excuse my ignorance...

It’s been 4 weeks from my Laparoscopy and I did suffer from that horrible gas pain under ribs and shoulders blaze for ages but now it seems to have come back. Heat or painkillers don’t seem to help much with this sort of pain actually.

I do get upper right abdominal pains and left lower side pains too, which I never had before surgery. The rib pains normally happen after eating so maybe it is still the gas?! Even though it’s been 4 weeks maybe there’s still some trapped there?

xx

Also, this pain can last from 30mins to an hour but then goes away completely.

Pelvic inflammatory disease / infection. I ended up in A&E! So please please go get checked. Do you feel nausea? Unsettled tummy? TMI but does your wee smell? Start taking your temperature? Is it normal range??? Do you have increased bowel movement? Or decreased? How’s your appetite? It is a side effect of abdomen procedures. It can happen and I have had it twice now! Once after myomectomy and now after ivf collection! Not a happy chappy!!! I must say.

It could be gas pain but do let me know about any of the above. Either way get it checked if it continues!!

If it feels like Gas pain try peppermint tea, if you don’t have any of the above symptoms it may well be!

Yeah I drink it every day, it’s strange cos I have no pains for days but then it suddenly flares up, as I said mostly after meals I noticed. I might take peppermint oil capsules like I used to. x

Oh I see.. 😰

Well no, I have no signs of infection whatsoever. Wee is clear and normal as usual, no smell. I go to the loo regularly ish; I have no temperature etc.

What were your exact symptoms?!?

I’ll call my specialist tomorrow and check with him again.

Yeah I think it’s weird that I still have the gas trapped but the symptoms are very similar as when I had the gas. x

My tummy does feel weird and I get sharp pains on the left lower side and I know it’s to do with bowel..

My appetite has been shifting a lot as I’ve also started taking the minipill which made me crave a lot of food all the time but it actually seems to have settled a bit now after 3 weeks of taking it. So Id say my appetite is normal as it was now.

Best to get it checked. My symptoms were tummy pain, frequent going to the loo. Not being able to pass stuff. Smelly wee. They did a ultrasound and my Fallopian tube was swollen. Sharp pain on my right side. Mixed with pain in my tummy. It’s been a very bizarre week for me!!! I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. I didn’t have a temperature.

In terms of appetite mine was normal, but on meds it ranges from non-existent to ravenous.

Oh no that sounds horrible :/ sorry to hear. I hope you’re feeling much better now?

I feel like peeing all the time in the last week actually, but then I drink A LOT of water and herbal teas.. Always have.

Well I’m due a new scan after the 6 weeks and that’s in early May, so I guess they’ll see if anything is weird inside then. But I’ll mention these symptoms tomorrow just in case. I had two follow-up apps with my Gyno already two weeks ago as I wanted to check my right sharp rib pain of the night before (It seems to happen mostly in the evenings!) and he checked the oxygen and breathing etc and said that nothing seemed wrong. Thanks a lot for all your advice. Take care of yourself xxx

Hey. I had a lap in 2016. I still have pain under my ribs and to the left of my belly button incision. I was told it was just my muscles mending but i still have have it 2 years after the op. The pain is worse when I have a full bladder or am ovulating. It's there all the time as a full ache then every so often I have a sharp pain that takes my breath away. It subsides after a short while. I was passed to a urology consultant to try and identify the cause. If you are still in pain, I would go back and be persistent. Hope you get it sorted.

Oh dear! That doesn't sound good... I can't believe you have the same pains after all this time! :( Yes, I'll see how I go. I don't get them every day at all but just once a week or so. It is very strange indeed. Thanks for your reply and advice xx take care
