Scan was clear?

I know you cannot guarantee to see any endo with having scans done but I felt he looked at all my organs and done internal scan. He said I look healthy no cysts. Meant to see gynaecologist for first time this week and feel disheartened as I’m beginning to think it’s all in my head. That they won’t find anything. I don’t know what to do. I’m from NZ and we have even less experienced doctors in this field.

I wouldn't be to worried over the scan not finding anything. All my scans are constantly clear minus a shy ovary and I have severe endo.

Hey

I wouldn't feel too disheartened. I had my first scan February 2017 and they couldn't see any signs of Endo. I then did convince myself I was in my head. When I had my op in June 2017, They found a cyst on my left ovary and confirmed I did have Endo.

I've recently gone back to find my right ovary has decided to move under my womb 😕 so will soon be going for another op.

All the best

Danii

Xx

My ultrasound scans have always made me seem clear so was disheartened as my GP thought it was in my head. When I saw my Specialist Gynocologist, he said my symptoms are highly likely endo and has made me a rush laparoscopy appointment.

Go see a gynocologist and explain your beliefs. Endo often is not seen on scans so will need a more thorough investigation or surgery with someone who knows what they're looking for.

Good luck :)

In my opinion only a Laparoscopy can give you peace of mind. On saying that all my 3 Laps were preformed privately via my company's health insurance. I was told and this was a long time ago that the UK's NHS does not offer a Lap initially and usually goes for the cost effective scan.

Can anyone confirm differently?

Thanks. I guess I just hoped it would show something most of all something other than endo. I have felt better than I had lately. And I have recovered from two infections which I thought could of been the cause to my pain. No one wants to have endo. I’ll have to wait and see what the gynaecologist says. I hope he is worth the money

My ultrasound and MRI both came back totally normal. In fact I did/do have endo but only a lap revealed this.

Basically - scans can be helpful as they may spot something else or show up endometriomas etc. So they are worth doing but the only way to diagnose endo is with a laparoscopy. So try not to overthink it and just see it as part of the journey you are on towards your diagnosis/treatment.

My ultrasounds were also clear - my endometriosis only showed up via laparoscopy. Yours might only show up on a laparoscopy. Good luck xoxo

I think this is why endo often takes so long to be diagnosed, as so many women are told there ultrasound is clear and then either they or the GP don't pursue the problem further. They struggle on until symptoms worsen and then end up back at the GP after a few years...probably then sent for another scan! I wouldn't worry, my scan didn't show stage 4 endometriosis either.

Thanks I guess I am worried that maybe I don’t and all my stress is for nothing at this stage I just want to forget everything

hi. Hope you are having a pain free day. Scans aren't reliable for endometriosis diagnosis, I have grade 4, deep infiltrated endometriosis i had 4 cysts and a full frozen pelvis and the only thing that showed up on the ct and MRI scan was the largest cyst. I was seeing a specialist in the UK and after my operation which he was expecting to be two hours to remove the cysts and tidy up after emergency surgery at a previous hospital he said he was baffled that my scans all looked normal and my symptoms didn't match the severity of the endometriosis so don't give up you know your own body just keep chipping away. Have you heard of the Endo diet? Cx

Yea I have and I had made some changes which I think helped. I’m also on the pill but I can’t say if it has helped or not. Thanku

Hey, my ultrasound scan was clear last year (I haven’t had an internal one yet) but an endo specialist suspects I have endo due to my symptoms. Also he found tenderness in my ovary area on both sides which another gynae didn’t spot during a pelvic exam.

I’m still waiting for a lap on the nhs and know how you feel like what if it’s all in my head. However we know our bodies and we know what’s normal or not.

Had my appointment with gyno and he said I need a hysterectomy that he believes I have endo and it’s the best cause of action.

Hi there I’m also from NZ going through the public health system waiting for a lap. I am also undiagnosed and my scan was also clear so I understand your frustration! Hysterectomy also isn’t always a “cure” as if you do have endo it can still grow back even without a uterus. I have heard it is best to have it excised. Hope you find some answers x

Where about r u? And yea I have seen that in a few posts. I won’t b keen to opt for it without some certainty. It is our woman parts after all

In Hamilton. There are no endometriosis specialists here that do public, they only do private and I don’t have health insurance so I’m out of luck 😩

I don’t have health insurance either but am still going private because of the otherwise long wait. Maybe u could talk to them about the cost. I know my first appointment w as $250 but u could go and then ask about the cost of treatment

Yeah I’ve tried but everyone in my area doesn’t do public lists so surgery would be tens of thousands of dollars and I’m a poor student hahahahaha

Oh shit. That’s no good yea I need to find out the cost of me having surgery as it won’t be cheap.

Oh no do u feel like u are getting anywhere

nikaykay profile image
nikaykay in reply to MrsNGoo

Absolutely not haha. I have a lap scheduled for May and a hysteroscopy and d&c but pain keeps getting worse and the specialist said there’s nothing wrong it’s all in my head. Obviously an endo specialist isn’t doing the surgery because there are none in my hospital so I’m guessing they won’t find anything and I’ll be back to square 1

Yea I opted for private for the fact I wanted diagnosed quicker and didn’t have to wait for public to get round to it just to get flogged off. But I cannot afford the op if it’s gonna be too much.

Yeah that’s why I didn’t go private I would pay the consult but I’d have to take out a mortgage for the surgery hahaha
