Ovulation / periods after mirena coil removal

Hi everyone,

I had my mirena coil removed on 26th July after having it in with no periods for 18 months. I had a laparoscopy in Feb 2017 to remove endometriosis in various areas and decided to have the coil out to try to conceive. So far I have had no symptoms of a period, no spotting and every single ovulation test has been negative. I know the GP said it can take months to settle after having the mirena removed, however I wondered if this was different because of the endo? The consultant said to expect the endo to return with a vengeance so I am trying to give myself the best possible opportunity to concieve before hand!!

I know most people don't wish for a period but I just want to know everything is working as it should!

How long is too long before I should start asking questions / requesting tests? Has anyone experienced anything similar before?

I'm no expert, but my GP told me that it could take around 6 months for your ovaries to wake up after hormone contraception, and if it was 6 months with no period then she would refer for bloods and scans and start to investigate why. However, this is the route my GP would go down for someone mid-thirties. I'm not sure if it would be 6 months for someone mid-twenties (sorry I don't know how old you are).

I know some people take Provera for around two weeks with the theory that you should ovulate when you stop taking them.

Sometimes hormonal contraceptives can cause cysts on your ovaries which would stop you from ovulating. The majority of cysts are harmless and burst themselves and you don't even know they were there, but if they hang around for a few weeks it could delay your period. I paid for a private ultrasound scan the find out that I had a cyst on my ovary.

I am sharing my personal experiences, but there will be many other opinions and reasons why you haven't had a period yet. I may come along any day, so try not the think about it too much, which I know can be hard.

I found paying for a private ultrasound really useful and reassuring. I went private because it was too early (before the 6 months) for my GP to refer me.

I am 21 and have suffered with endo since I was 16 ish. I never thought about a private ultrasound, that is a good idea!!
