after having an awful few days I've decided to go wheat free and dairy free. (this is to start off with, if I need to cut out other things then I will)

I just wondered if anyone had any tips or advice to share on going wheat and dairy free please?

thanks xx

Hi! I've been trying to follow a low FODMAP diet recently, so I've been cutting out both dairy and wheat, as well as other things.

Tesco do their own range of wheat and dairy free products in the Free From section and Arlo sell lacto-free milk, yoghurts, cheese, etc. which I've found useful (I can still enjoy a cup of coffee or tea!).

Hi, they are the two things I cut out to good effect. My substitutes:

Cheese: Bute Island range available in H&B, Independent health food stores, online and I think Sainsbury's. They do smoked cheddar, cranberry and Wensleydale, feta style etc. They also do nice cream cheeses. Avoid violife unless you like rubbery plasticky cheese.

Alpro soymilk and cream or Oatly brand oat based ones.

Swedish Glace non dairy ice cream ( white hexagonal tubs) in all supermarkets. Very nice and in vanilla, chocolate and raspberry flavours

Bread: I'm going with german style rye and sunflower breads with lemon oil drizzled over it. It tastes a bit like savoury lemon cake but better than free from breads which I found horrid.

Pasta: there is a pea protein green pasta in Waitrose that's nice. There is also gluten free gnocchi. Both taste fine.

Ok, good luck. Would be great to know how get on and if it makes a difference.

I heard soy and red meat are bad too, but I don't have it in me to give up on those. I gave up on wheat and though my stomach feels so much better, my bowels and endo don't, and I've cut down on dairy but it's had little effect. I find my food choices pretty limited and in terms of like being out the house, there isn't a lot to eat like if I wanted to just buy a sandwhich on my way to work, but if you're gonna commit then it makes it worth it in the long run! I never leave the house without a pack up now, even just going to the shops haha!

I've just started this too. Been in so much bowel discomfort since my lap 4 weeks ago (although waiting to see a bowel surgeon as they couldn't get rid of a large lesion).

I ordered a shop that arrived yesterday of wheat free, dairy free, soya free and cutting out refined sugar so hoping maple syrup and maple sugar are good alternatives.

I did find that the choice was limited, especially being a veggie, vegan now I guess... but I'm hoping to muster the energy to bake at weekends.

I hope you get some relief. I'll keep a look out for any updates.

Good luck x

Thank You, I think it will take quite a bit of preparation but I've got to give it a go xx

I've been two weeks dairy and wheat free. Its difficult, but my bloating and abdomen pain is so much better. Thanks for the product tips especially the cheese ( I've just experienced the rubber one. YUK !!). Another good one for ice-cream supplement is a frozen banana with a a tbsp of almond or coconut milk slightly blended ! Yummy ! or half a banana with a lolly stick freeze and cover in dairy free chco !!! ENJOY xx

I was going to make a separate post about this. I do not eat gluten, meat or lactose. I have always bled inbetween my periods and struggle with pain. About 2 weeks I started taking regular vitamin supplements, especially D3, vit B12, Vit C, (TTC so taking folic acid), Omega 3, vit E, just added magnesium 2 days ago and I can't believe that I have stopped bleeding. I took the advise of Vit D3 and folic acid off a consultant who deals with miscarriages. I have stage 4 endo, fibroids, ovarian cysts and other things and I don't want to speak too soon but I can't believe that I haven't needed to use a panty liner in days. I spend a fortune on panty liners because I always buy the organic natural ones. The effect of these vitamins working has been very quick. I am a bit overwhelmed today because this could be really good news for me, I am approaching my period soon and my symptoms at the moment are very good, I have sore breasts but that's it, no endo pain and a big one for me is no bleeding. When taking any vitamins whats really important is making sure you have food in your belly, I am quite sensitive to feeling nauseous after taking vitamins but if i take them after food I feel fine. Some good news is that prezzo, Zizzi's and pizza express do good vegan gluten free pizzas! Nairns do really go gluten and soya free biscuits. Soya is estrogenic so good to stay away from products with Soya. I have found making smoothies really helps. Get a good blender, you can get cheap ones now for smoothies and I use nut milks, cocoa powder and macca powder to make a really good chocolate "milkshake". Macca helps to regulate hormones and Cocoa improves blood circulation and reduces blood clotting which is something I have noticed I do not get as much now. I buy frozen fruit if I make fruit smoothies with bananas. There are so many great options now in food shops but always read the labels because I find that a lot products will still include milk/soya. Hope this helps a bit xx Keep up with the gluten especially, i know its hard! The biggest thing for me will be if all this helps my fertility. Won't know until my next FET cycle. x

It's hard at first. We cut out all processed foods, including wheat and dairy, for our son after testing by our Naturopathic Dr did testing 7 years ago. It's important to test, as you may be allergic to the substitutions you make, also. Best of all choices was to go organic with the foods we do choose to eat. Basically, the body is complex, so treat it as such and get a Dr. of Naturopathic medicine to help you.
