Hi all, I have a laparoscopy booked for just over a weeks time.

I'm looking for abit of advice on recovery time and what to expect. The doctor said he will make 4 incisions in total and they will unblock a fallopian tube.

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks x

This pdf describes the healing process and variables that make recovery faster or slower. Everyone is different. Some need 2 weeks some 6 or more. Your surgeon should give you an estimate. Last time I was told 2 and needed 5 as I had complications and post op fatigue . This time with more treatment I was told six weeks. A virus set me back a week but I am doing well overall now.

Hiya hun! Fantastic news that you have your lap booked, really pleased for you, and that there going to unblock your tube instead of removing it. 😘 sending lots of love and hugs xx

Thanks! The lap was booked really quickly, I'm surprised!

Bit nervous but relieved it's booked and sorted.

Do you have a date for your procedure?

Oh no! What's the delay? Do you need more tests?

I think I am quite lucky with my consultant. He seems very proactive.

I'm still waiting for my 3rd ultrasound. Need to ring up and chase it now, plus waiting lists in my area are ridiculously long!x

Hi, it really depends on the person and how it goes on the day.

I've had two lap's with two incisions each time, first one I ended up ripping my stiches so it took a good four weeks for the pain to subside. And 6 weeks before I was back to normal. Second one went far more smoothy and was back to normal two weeks after.

My advice is to take it slow and let yourself heal. Also some advice when they do the incisions they pump air into your abdomen so they can get to everything easier, and although they get rid of most of it some can remain and can feel really uncomfetable (only for a day or two though) so if you like it drink some peppermint tea, it massivly helps with the pressure and prop yourself up with cushions.

Good luck and try not to feel too nervous :)

Thank you for the advice. At the moment I'm trying to research abit and get prepared. I will add peppermint tea to my list 😁

I wanted to try and give work a set date for return but reading about recovery, sounds like that may not be possible. Initially i said a week but that may be optimistic!

Not feeling to nervous at the minute but I know as it gets closer my nerves will get worse.

I did exactally the same before I had mine so I knew what to expect. Still had a few surprises though.

Might be a little optimistic but you never know, I'd tell them two and then see how you go. Not being able to plan can be a bit of a nightmare I know.

Be odd if they didn't to be honest :) but at least it's over quickly and the recovery will be over before you know it.

Hi, I was advised to take Senokot for the first few days after surgery to ease bowel motions and not put too much pressure on the incision sites. It wasn't pleasant constantly running to the toilet but it did help with the healing process.

All the best and I wish you a speedy recovery x

I only needed a week off work with both my laparoscopies. Be prepared to be bloated though, for at least 2 weeks I couldn't get my skinny jeans fastened! Take loose clothing to wear home from hospital. Good luck 😊

The consultant said the general rule is for every day you spend at the hospital you need a week off. I found this to be reasonable for me. I had two operations. I had 2 and 4 weeks off. I then went back half time for 1-2 weeks. It depends on the kind of work you do however, it is important not too over stretch yourself .

Good luck with your operation.
