2 Q's: Elavil and Food Intolerance

Hello all,

I have two questions, not related to one another.

First, I have been on Elovil (amitriptyline) for over a month for pelvic pain and PP related depression. I am still no where near adapted to it in regards to sleep. I am incapable of waking up unless I have 11-12 hours of sleep. Even then, I need at least an hour to adapt to being awake, and spend most of the day yawning and feeling groggy. The tiredness is worse than when I wasn't sleeping because of pain. In addition, I feel stupid on it. My memory used to be sharp and I was quick witted, now I get halfway across the room just to forget where I was going and why. Conversation is awful because I can't remember the words I am looking for. (We're talking simple words like door and keys)

My second question is about food Intolerance and Endo. When I was in my early twenties, I quit my birth control. I soon developed a severe dairy Intolerance, as well as a touchy stomach with some other foods. A month after my laproscopy and i had started my BC again, I went out for my birthday and ate steak and had ice cream for dessert, fully expecting to pay for it later. I didnt. Since then, I notice that I am not lactose intolerant UNLESS I am on my period, therefore on my placebo week. Anyone else have to watch what they eat during their womanly week but not other times?

Hello - I've been on Amitriptyline for 15 years initially for neck and shoulder pain and have been trying to get off it for the last few years without success. My advice would be not to start on it, the withdrawal for me has been horrific. The dry mouth never goes away but your grogginess should get better however. I have endometriosis and I am exploring natural options like progesterone cream as I have found out I have oestrogen dominance like a lot of people with endometriosis have. Have you tried the Merina coil? I have just had it removed as it flared up my ulcerative colitis but it did work for the endometriosis and you could be pain free. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask - I have been on a long journey all of this crap and I'm happy to help where I can.

Thanks for the advice. I was on a low (10mg) dose. My GP doctor has agreed for me to come off the Elavil, so I am off after 5 or 6 weeks max.

My obgyn has suggested a coil, but I have some hesitation from family history. I will be seeing several specialists at the end of August who will hopefully determine if my pain is fully Endo based or if IC is involved.
