Still having diarrhea 1 month after laparoscopy...

So it's been now over a month since my laparoscopy, almost 6 weeks actually. I had occasional bouts of diarrhea like maybe once in a month or less before the surgery, and bowel endo was suspected. There was nothing on an MRI though and nothing found on the bowel during my laparoscopy. There was endo in other places which was removed. Why on earth did I get what seems like IBS flare up after the surgery? I can go 3 or more days being constipated and then I eat something that doesn't agree with me at the moment and go from constipation to diarrhea. The stool has yellow mucous in it. I thought I could manage it with probiotics and peppermint oil capsules, but today, after 3 days of constipation, I got diarrhea again. Could I have IBS and have a flare up from the surgery? I am also having days when I burp almost every 10 minutes. What is wrong with me?

Unfortunately I never got any real answer. I had all sorts of tests and even colonoscopy and gastroscopy and everything was fine. A recent MRI with a very experienced radiologist, who wasn't just looking for endo, found that my colon is overly long and makes all sorts of weird twists, and her working hypothesis is that it makes my gut more prone to reactions as there is more surface to heal and the twists make my digestion difficult. Apparently my microbiota got horribly messed up from all the things around the surgery like bowel prep and fasting, anesthesia and pain meds, bed rest and diet changes, and a few weeks after my surgery I was prescribed antibiotics and that was really too much. Two years later I'm still on a modified version of the low FODMAP diet (that's what they tell you to follow if you have IBS) and struggling. Good luck, I hope your gut gets back to normal.

I am so sorry you are so uncomfortable.

I use psyllium husk tablets for diarrhea and constipation. They have a duel function.

Innopure are 100% natural psyllium . They are gluten, lactose, soy free. I buy on Amazon as they deliver next day.

Check out my profile I have information about psyllium husks in a post.

I have IBS , reflux osphagus , GERD and I understand the discomfort and pain it causes .

The fibre in the psyllium husk tablets soaks up the excess moisture in you poo making them normal when you have diarrhea. They are very gentle on your bowels and tummy as well. You need to drink a pint of water when you take tablets 30-60 minutes before food.

I even give the to my dog who developed colitis after FTTA surgery on his leg in January. He only has one tablet a day and suffers with very loose diarrhea.

Let me know how you get on if you give them a try.
