Just wondering what the opinion is on the Mirena coil and endo. I've been offered it today and they've booked me in for next month to get it fitted. Can anyone give me some advice on it? Does it work? Does it make the pain better or worse?
Thanks

It seems to work better on older women,as their progesterone is naturally declining.
The constant top up from it seems to help with heavy bleeding.
However in younger women whose cycles have enough of both hormones it can cause an imbalance, heavy bleeding, clots etc.for some time before it thins out your lining in the uterus.
Everyone is different there is no hard and fast rule with anything like that.
In saying that, there are some that would prefer to take a pill,as its easier to stop immediately if it does have side effects you cant handle.
Bear in mind you will get cramping when this goes in and bleeding.
Could be short time could be long.
Only you can decide how long you give it and if you can handle any side affects.
Hi , I was offered the mirena coil with many symptoms of endo. I would personally get referred to a Gynae dr first, discuss with them what is best. Better to be safe than sorry, I've been told the pain does not get better but it varies from person to person x
I had the Mirena coil fitted and it gave me severe back aches and left me feeling quite blue. The bleeding and spotting was intolerable so swiftly had it removed.
But everyone is different and its I possible to advise how you would feel. Just make sure you don't have a holiday that month or an event - you may want to delay it a few weeks.
Good luck and fingers crossed you find the solution that's right for you.
i had the minera coil to try and lighten periods and help pain, i was actually having a hysteroscopy at the time and they offered it to me there and then and i thought i'll try anything for some relief. for me it didn't work at all, and actually made things much worse, a lot of the time i couldn't even stand up straight as pain was so bad, my bleeding got worse, and the rare times i wasn't bleeding i had weird discharge, i also had some hair loss. i kept being told give it three months, then six, twelve etc. 20 months it was in for, they finally took it out when i had my lap, where i also was sterilised and had a endometrial ablation for bleeding, and was diagnosed with stage 4 endo, no treatment still waiting to sort that out.
my advise though would be to give it a go, as it is very different for everybody, for some women its a miracle so for me it was worth a shot, i just wished i'd demanded it was taken out much earlier as i suffered majorly for that 20 months xx
Like so many 'solutions' to this illness and meds I think it really varies from woman to woman. I had a pretty miserable time with it after I had it put in at same time as my first lap, was fine for a month then bled constantly. Totally affected my hormones too, was up and down and felt like my body had been taken over. But it does work brilliantly for some woman - meant to be good/effective if you've had pregnancies. I think anything is worth trying - because it could be a fix for you - just do your research and know what is in store - with the coil you're meant to give it six months to 'settle down'. Think the most important thing is to know and listen to your body. Good luck!
