Hi everyone struggling to work and to find work, does anyone on here claim ESA? And how easy is it to claim? I have never claimed any benifits before but I literally have no income right now and in so much pain daily.

Thanks xx

I would like to hear the answers to this too, I've just given up my part time job. My husband works so I don't think I'm entitled to anything, x

I've been claiming for 3 years. If you are single you can claim, you can still claim if in serious ie where you live together you may still be able to claim. You should have an assessment which is hard to pass, within 3 months. You can get esa contribution based if you have paid enough ni contributions. You only get it for so long then you can get income based. You can do an online benefit check to see if you are eligible. Google benefit checker.

You have to fill a detailed medical assessment form out, when you do always answer as though it's a really really bad day. Like can you make a cup of tea no as you are in bed vomiting etc.

The medical itself is a minefield. If you get to that stage post again for more help. Good luck xx

I claimed ESA before. You apply online for it, same idea as job seekers. However you will be asked health questions as well. You may be asked to go to see someone who will assess you but there is nothing to worry about. When I was on it they were so good with me. Once that bit is all over and done with you don't intend to get any hassle. Not pushed about work or anything. Definitely apply ladies as it takes a lot of stress off you knowing you have some money coming in every couple of weeks. That way you can concentrate on you and how to be more comfortable. I wish you all the best with it xxx

Sorry forgot to say, all these forms are not the easiest and when I say health questions I mean that you answer it on your worst days not how you feel on a better day. Also if you get to the assessment stage please make sure you don't wear make up and just wear joggies and a top. As if they think you can do yourself up then you're for enough to go to work. Please try not to worry about this. Any other questions just ask, we are all here xxx

I'm currently claiming ESA. Not been on it for long. I have anxiety, depression, and endo. But I think they're more interested in the mental side of things. It's worth a try though. They're all really nice.
