Have you had a diagnostic laparoscopy or just an ultrasound to diagnose this? If you have had a laparoscopy your consultant will have noted the severity of your Endo (there are four stages with 1 being mild and 4 being severe), how serious your Endo is also depends on where it is; for some people they only have flimsy adhesions that are easily removed and stay away, whereas others can have deep Endo which if it affects the bowel can be pretty serious.

You're going to need to go back to your gp; they should have been given information from the hospital regarding the outcome of surgery. If you haven't had surgery the only way to find out how serious your Endo is is and to get a diagnosis is to have a laparoscopy.

There is a lot of information online. I would recommend Endo resolved as a starting point to learn more about the condition xx

Here is a link to the website I recommended.

Laparoscopy is the only way to definitively diagnose Endo, though I know chocolate cysts can be seen on ultrasound. If they have said Endo your gp should refer you to a bsge specialist centre - here is a list, find one near you.

The pill will only mask symptoms and will not treat the condition. 23 is not too young to have surgery or to have extensive disease - it needs investigated and that is the only way you will find out how serious your condition is. Say to your gp you're not happy, still in pain and would like referral to an Endo specialist - suggest a centre. By the time you see a consultant and reach the top of the waiting list for surgery it could be 18months+ with waiting lists so really is best to get onto it now.

oh plus if I may emphasize on what applebird advised you, I would say run with the idea of getting the diagnostic lap and removal lap as quickly as you can. I had a HSG in 2014 and my fallopian tubes were fine, diagnosed with endo in 2015 August (lap), had a lap to remove endo in March 2016 and both tubes are completely blocked due to them being twisted. So yes things get worse really quickly in there than we really think and no medication can prevent that. All the best x

Hi,

I have two chocolate cysts (endometriomas) on my left ovary and one on my right. I had two removed from my left initially as that's all there was then they came back and grew to over 6cm within 9 months. Plus I now have that extra one on the right. The surgeon didn't understand endo well as she found it in my bladder, bowels and pouch of Douglas too but didn't touch it.

I'd echo what others say, it can move quickly but I can't stress enough how important it is going to a specialist for your first operation (laparoscopy as mentioned above). Look up what others have said but from my advice you need someone who really understands it.

Good luck x
