I am due to have my lap on Thursday. I am very anxious about it. Is there anything I can do to prep or can someone tell me what to expect?

Hello lovely. I am 5 weeks post op now and doing very well. I had severe endometriosis removed by endo specialist in London. My biggest advice is to stay on top of your pain meds in the first week or so and don't let the pain get ahead of you. I didn't actually have a terrible amount of pain afterwards just more of a discomfort and was able to be on just ibuprofen and paracetamol regularly after about a week. I had 4 little incisions and they used dermabond glue to close them. They have all healed well. I also had to have internal stitches in my cervix but I didn't have any trouble with those. I still have some aches and discomfort but nothing terrible. I am now just working on getting my energy and stamina back! I hope it all goes well for you and try not to worry too much!

I've not long had a laparoscopy and was extremely scared about it. Won't go into major detail but it wasn't any where near as bad as I had expected! I felt sleepy and relaxed when I woke up and the only thing that caused any major problem was pain from the air they inflate ur abdomen with. I had pain in my chest that felt like an elephant had trodden all over me and sat on me, I really got worried but it is just an effect of the surgery and went after a day or two so stop worrying and just think you may finally get a diagnosis and treatment to make you feel better xxxx

I had a lap on Monday. Was fairly extensive surgery and I feel exhausted but pain levels are not too bad. As said above, make sure you keep on top of pain with meds. I tend to get pain in shoulders after a lap (apparently a side effect of the gas they use during surgery) and peppermint tea is supposed to help ease this. The only other Prep I would suggest is that you do all cleaning etc prior to going into surgery as you really won't be up to doing this for a couple of weeks after surgery. And then all you need is a good book or box set to take your mind off it all! Your recovery period really will depend on how much they do during surgery.

Take a pillow with u for the journey home that he can put over your tummy. This helps to cushions your tummy from the bumps in the road. Get some mints, peppermint tea and peppermint capsules. They blow ur tummy up with air so they can see everything and sometimes u get transference pain in your shoulder. So mint helps to relieve the gas and will help the shoulder pain. Also might be worth getting some laxatives. I'm usually the other way but after my lap I couldn't go to the toilet because of the anthesthetic for three days and was making me worse. Good luck and hope it goes well. X

make sure you are well hydrated before the op, drink plenty after to help flush drugs from your system

If you are nervous insist that your partner or buddy stays with you right untill you are taken for induction.

good luck- I'd never had an anaesthetic before mine and was terrified, the staff were lovely, mine was a fallopian tube removal and thats when they found the endo.
