Norethisterone to start a period?

Hi just wondering if anyone can help? I suffer with endometriosis and had an lap+excision in November 2014. This always seems to do the trick, however since this my periods have been irregular and far apart (PCOS has not been formally diagnosed, however it could be a possibility). My consultant informed me if I went 12 weeks without a period I should take Norethisterone 5mg twice a day for a week. I got my prescription today and have read the information leaflet however it does not say it is used for starting a period (just stopping them, PMS symptoms and endo pain). I was just wondering if anybody has tried this to start a period and if so, did you return to normal after taking them?

thanks in advance,

Hol x
