I am about to start a 3 month course of these..... Can anyone tell me if there is a better time to start these I.e before/during or after a period etc I forgot to ask the consultant. Has anyone got any advice to give me on what I should do whilst on these? X x

This was a god send for me. Should have first one on first day of period and then four weeks to the date for the next ones. Three months isn't really enough for your body to regularise or for you to benefit from it (period and pain wise). It took me about four for my body to completely stop. You'll need HRT too to stop the hot sweats depending on why you've been put on it? X

It doesn't really matter when you start it. But I would start it on first day of period to rule out pregnancy and then every 4 weeks.

The side effects are a bit overwhelming, I couldn't take the add back Livial (HRT) due to having hormonal related migraines, so I suffered with hot flushes and vaginal dryness. Also my mood was very flat and I was very forgetful.

It's excellent for stopping the pain and bleeding related to endo though so if you can tolerate the side effects you will be okay.

I was on it for a year the last time. And have been on it more than once. You can only try it and see how you get on. Good luck x

Thanks for your replies ladies, I'm having a meltdown at the minute because my next period is due 4 days before me and my husband are ment to be going away for our first wedding anniversary which is why I was wondering when it can be started, I can only have this injection for 3 months because of my osteoarthritis the consultant I saw didn't think it was a good idea for me to be on it any longer than that so I'm hoping if it does work the affects last a little longer than the injections if that makes sense, I can only try this injection to see what happens but hopefully I won't wait to long for surgery x x

You could ask for some calcium meds too. Start it sooner rather than later. Ob they will just check you're not pregnant first. It doesn't have an effect on bone density so that's why in your case it's better shorter term, but when it finishes the bone density returns to normal.

Honestly the letter can't come quick enough to my GP surgery, I was only seen last Thursday but I'm thinking the quicker I can get in (providing there's an appt) the better, my gp surgery is a bit of a nightmare to get an appt with, I've already asked if they'll look out for the letter and ring me when they relieve it but that's too much for them to do!!
