Does anyone have any tips on making opening your bowels after a lap any less painful? I just went and almost cried with the pain :(

There's only one solution that will really help for the short term.. I use something called laxido which is a laxative that dissolves in water. Ask your GP to prescribe you some, the painkillers your taking will probably be making you constipated.

Feel better soon

Okay, thanks, i only had my lap just over 24hrs ago so stomach really sore still which is what was hurting me. I'm only on paracetamol and ibuprofen for pain xx

Lactulose which you can buy over the counter but it can take about 2 days to kick in. Otherwise dulcoease, again you can buy it over the counter. Also walking as much as possible and drinking 3 litres of water a day helps. Best wishes

I haven't had a lap but I was told to take a herbal laxative when I had stitches after giving birth and it was a lifesaver! I didn't do that the first time I it literally felt like my stitches were going to pop :s I dont know if you could take that after having a lap? Xx

Don't force yourself Hun, mine was 5 days after my lap, laxido is great, try anything like that, don't worry if it doesn't happen straight away it will come when it's ready ;)

I used some glycerol suppositories after lap, you can buy them over the counter, a bit weird to use but really took pressure off stomach and stitches, and they work very quickly.

Maybe ask about some stronger painkillers too if the ones you have aren't strong enough.

Lactulose was good and tasted a lot better than laxido. I stocked up on smoothies, fruit and veg and avoided any stodgey carb fuelled food. I remember not going for days - I think it was 4 or 5 days after my lap. Hold in there however I know the pain is not comfortable at all x

Eat things that won't stop you up. Lots of fruit and veggies. If you are on codeine that'll be causing blockages. I lasted 3 days on that then knocked it on the head expect if I really needed it then I went just fine!

It took me 4 days after my lap last week before I went to the toilet. I drank lots of water and ate normally.

Hi it took me 4/5 days to go after my laps. Drink lots of water and try to walk for about 10 mins each day.

I had bowel resection 2 months ago. I was advised big to take anything like senacot as will disrupt the bowel too much. I saw my consultant today six said it takes time for bowel to ease. My pain has definitely reduced and discomfort is much less. He advised to start taking lactulose again for helping with constipation. He was very reassuring about unsettled bowel being normal. Plenty of fluids and moderate diet on red meat and bread etc to ease bowel movements x

Ps I was 9 days before I could go to loo, but expected after bowel reaction. Plenty of good fibre in fruit veg etc x

I had my lap bout 10 days ago. I didn't open my bowels until the 6th day and when I did boy it was hell!

I couldnt go although I had a urge to do so. Eventually, i had to make a trip to my GP and she prescribed me Laxido, Docusate and Glycerin suppositories. All combined together worked miracles for me.

Try and get a script for either one of them if not all and give it ago!

Wish u the best and get well soon. Xxx
