Hi,just want to know if endometriosis of the bowel can be missed by a sonar and colonoscopy. It sounds as if the only certain way to determine endo is through a laparoscopy. I have had colonoscopies and sonars and the sonars only picked up on a small cyst on my right ovary.

Laparoscopy only way?
Hi there, yes it can be missed. Mine was missed on sigmoidoscopy even though it had already penetrated through the bowel. It can be very hard to identify bowel endo. Are you seeing a consultant with experience of severe/ bowel endometriosis?
Take care and good luck
Yes my understanding is it is hard to identify though based on an MRI last year my gyne seemed to think my bowel was adhered (obv exactly the news I didn't want to hear but why I pushed for the MRI). Because I had a bad experience with a laproscopy and am wary of surgery full stop due to family history of operations and adhesions I am trying different approaches. Am considering having a whole body thermography done - absolutely no idea if it will work but thought it would be interesting to try and identify hot/inflamed points across my body. I am pretty convinced the endo is in a number of places and I thought that may give me some pointers. (Have had breast thermography done in past as unsure of mammograms plus under 50 anyway and was pretty convinced by that process). So my thermography idea is probably mad - doctor might roll her eyes! - but if I do it / is quite pricey / I'll feedback on the forum.
Ps - all the comments on this topic lately has made me realise that if I can't halt the progression of my symptoms I do need to seek out a bowel endo specialist - this far have just dealt with a general gyne at hospital...
