don't know what to do...

Hi, I've always suffered with painful and heavy periods and have always just been told that I have IBS. Recently, the pain has gotten worse and I have been on my period for 3 months now. I get this really sharp stabbing pain along with an ache and pains in my side. I am also really bloated and tired. I was sent for an ultrasound scan where they told me that I had a cyst on my ovary and a polyp in my womb. However, when I next went on to visit a gynaecologist - he didnt even mention the cyst or polyp but told me that my ovary is not free to move and has something growing on it which is sticking it down! :( He said that I most likely have endometriosis and then just asked me to sign for consent for surgery - with no explanation of what, where or when! After seeing my confused face, he said that I should put up with it with painkillers and just come back in 6 months time to make up my mind!?

After researching about this on the internet, I am really worried:

I am not sure whether it would be best to have my implant out because I have read that this can make it worse?

I am worried that it could spread and end up growing and attaching to my bowel or bladder (is this what is causing the IBS)?

I am also extremely worried that I won't be able to have children and if they will take out my ovary during the op as well?

.....or if it ruptures? (I live miles away from the nearest hospital)!!

I'm really sorry It's a lot but it is definitely helping to write down all my worries. I really feel like I can't talk to doctors/gynaecologists because I feel like they usually try to rush you and don't listen :(

Please please help, thank you! :)

It seems impossible to find a decent and polite doctor. I think most of us here have had the same experience as yourself with insensitivity and rudeness from doctors, as if we don't already have enough to put up, pain wise. You should ask him to refer you to an endo specialist, and ask for excision rather than the laser laporoscopy. Do not settle for anything less than excision at any cost.

I myself also worry about infertility, as many endo sufferers, but console myself that if things don't go well naturally that ivf will....what can I say...hold on and best of luck! x

Im so sorry that you don't have a pleasant doctor, that makes it harder i would guess! My doctor is pretty sure that my endo is on my bowel because of lack of bowel movement, they thought it was ibs to start with but then ruled out after tests, i would advise that if you havent already had tests to see if it is actually Ibs i would demand a test! The doctor would ask your consent before removing your ovaries so don't worry about that too much, after all the research i have done, thats most doctors last resort, they prefer trying other options first! Even if you would have to have an ovary removed there is a chance that you would be able to have children!

I hope this helps or gives your mind a little rest, its not the easiest health condition to live with i know, but if you have any questions or just need some advice on whats best, or just a shoulder to cry on feel free to private message me and ill try and help as much as i can!

stay strong x
