How long does prostrap take to wear off
Gem - it is on a constant process of wearing out from the moment it goes in, but there are traces in the body for up to 4months after the last dose. Nothing strong enough to keep the pituitary shut down after the 4th week.
But how quickly the sleeping pituitary takes to wake up and start manufacturing hormones again varies in each of us, not just in terms of it waking up, but which hormones it starts to manufacture first and second and so on, and how quickly it gets to have topped up all the missing hormones is what will determine how quickly you will notice the side effects wearing off.
To my knowledge the only hormone that has been researched in terms of time scales are the sex hormones - which take an average of around 6 months to get you ovulating again.
Personally speaking I found things like hot flushes getting weaker and further apart from about 2-3 weeks after stopping zoladex and only a few weeks later and I wasn't getting any of the side effects at all except for the one that I still have to this day -which is the loss of short term memory.
That has never recovered in 3 years.
Most ladies seem to report side effects easing off considerably within a month of stopping. It is a waiting game - because it isn't the drug that is causing the side effects but the pituitary gland, so your own body holds the answers as to how long it will take. It is entirely down to your own body how quickly it prioritises hormone production activity.
Fingers crossed for you that it doesn't take too long.
Hi Gem I had 6 months treatment with prostap and it took a further 3 months before I had a period although the other effects such as the hot flushes etc eased after a few weeks. I didnt restart the pill until the first day of my first period but I wasnt taking it for contraceptive reasons - only to lighten my periods and make them less frequent. If u dont want go get pregnant then u couldn't risk waiting til then as obviously you would have ovulated a couple of weeks earlier!
