Hi Had my lap on Wednesday and they found my womb was thick and bumpy. They said it was likely to be Adenomyosi . My symptoms are lower back and hip pain, heavy periods, mood swings, bloating. Anyone have the same? Waiting for a scan, to confirm. Any ideas ladies?? thanks xx
Adenomyosi: Hi Had my lap on Wednesday and... - Endometriosis UK
Adenomyosi
It is spelled Adenomyosis and many ladies on the forum do have both endo and adeno.
One of the forum members Danielle - set up a brilliant website for all things adeno.

Loads of useful advice on there to read through. Also use the search box on the green bar at the top of the forum and search for Adeno or Adenomyosis as it is has been discussed hundreds of times and there should be a lot of info on the previous discussions that may prove useful to you.
Treatments are much the same as for endo, ultimately surgery to remove the uterus will remove the adeno, but in the meantime while you still want to hold on to the baby making bits then stopping your periods or at least reducing the number you have each year is the main way to exert control over your menstrual cycle and try and make the adeno have less of an impact on your quality of daily living.
Adeno is discussed almost as often as endo on this forum, they are in many ways very similar diseases, the main difference is that adeno only grows inside uterus muscle tissue - whereas endo can grow anywhere and tends to be a disease of cells growing on surfaces rather than inside tissue.
Hi Fiona. I have suspected adenomyosis after having an MRI. I also saw an expert consultant who said the same just from ultrasound. However my regular gynae is not convinced as the lesions don't look large and the severity of the symptoms don't match! My symptoms are pelvic pain, lower back pain, hip pain, rectal pains and anal discomfort, excessive and prolonged bleeding with clots and, more recently, diahorrea. I keep mentioning rectal, back and hip pain and get blank looks! Sounds like you might be in a similar.situation and would be interested to know how you scan goes. Best wishes. Jane
Hi, I have adenomyosis (as well as endo) and I have similar symptoms. My periods are not particularly heavy but I get loads of back pain, hip pain and bloating. I was getting quite bad mood swings too but those seem better since I started doing the endo diet. Hope you find out soon x
Thank you so much ladies, very helpful information. It's been a long 5 years waiting for a diagnosis. I now have to wait till the end of October to see the consultant again. Everything just takes so long. I have had three children so ready to have a hysterectomy. Looking forward to be pain free and a nicer person! This site has been a comfort to me. Impatient you answer everyone thank you for your knowledge and time. My mind was wondering whether it would be womb cancer. So your replies help. Xx
