What to expect from my first lap??

Hey all,

I have my first lap tomorrow and was just wondering if any one had any advise on what to expect? Some things I would like to know are:

Will I find out what they find straight away?

Will I bleed after?

How long should I expect to be in pain for and off work?

And any other things that anyone has experienced

Thanksxx

Hey. Firstly good luck tomorrow.

I think it varies from person to person so there's no right answer really. The first lap I had I was only signed off for a week but I need more. Work came back around way too soon. Realistically I needed at least 10 days and all the did was look and say yeah you've got endo. They came onto the ward after the op and told me what they'd found. The second one I had 4 weeks ago left me in quite a bit of pain I ended up staying in overnight. I had 2 weeks off work but fortunately had a holiday booked immediately afterwards so have actually been off for a month. And I needed it! There's no way I would have been well enough to go back after 2 weeks. I'm still not lifting anything heavy or doing strenuous housework ie hoovering etc. I've leant that you just have to take your time to recover and listen to what your body is telling you. Hope it all goes well xx

Hi there,

My consultant told me what he found straight away, he also told my partner as I was drowsy.

Re bleeding, I guess everyone is different but when I woke up from the operation they had actually put a pad on for me, I would take some with you maybe just in case. (I'm not very good at talking about things like this but as you asked I wanted to reply to your question).

Re pain, again everyone is different but I was glad I had my partner at home with me when I came home as I was in pain and needed help. I would advise having someone around if possible. I am self employed and have an active job so I booked a month off work. It's important to let your body recover so listen to your body. I found that some people seemed to play down the operation and make out that it's not a big deal but it is still an operation at the end of the day and your body will need to recover in its own time.

I would advise taking some loose clothes for after the op to travel home in and a cushion to put in between yourself and the seatbelt.

I was quite anxious about the operation, as well as relieved to be finally he having it done but on reflection there really wasn't anything for me to be worried or frightened about.

I hope this helps and all goes well tomorrow for you.

Nat

Heya Hun. I had mine in November last year. As soon as I was sitting up and talking the consultant came and told me that I do have endo! I had no bleeding and was just a bit stiff afterwards. I had no pain, no bleeding. I couldn't believe it, best of luck to you Hun xxx

Hi. I had my first one on Saturday so currently in bed at home. I felt much better than I anticipated. I'm not in too much pain at all but I over did it today and feel tired. I just feel like I've done lots of sit ups. I've been told I can't drive or lift anything for 2 weeks and I'm signed off for a month. I had two chocolate cysts removed and some things unstuck from each other as I have quite severe endo. I was dreading it and by that I mean I was crying as they put me to sleep but I wish now I hadn't worried so much because it's actually been a really positive experience. Good luck tomorrow. I am certain you will be fine. In fact enjoy being looked after for a few days :) best wishes

Hi! Good luck and hope you get the answers you need. The hospital will sign you off for a week right away. If it's just diagnostic 10-14 days should be ok, all being well. If like me, they tell you it's only diagnostic, but then remove it all anyway - you may need longer. I was signed off by my gp for 4 weeks, but to be honest, 5 would be more realistic but I needed to get back to work. Take it easy, don't rush yourself, let your body heal. Best of luck xxx
