Hi, l had my lap 5 weeks ago and once I was back on the ward the surgeon/consultant came to speak to me about the results. However I was a bit out of it and didn't take much of it in at the time!! So maybe a good idea to have a think abt what kind of questions u wld like to ask. Good luck for tomrw. Is it a diagnostic lap or are they going to remove endo?

It can be that the surgeon has enough time between operations to pop by and see you,but that is not always the case, and sometimes they have take biopsies which can take a few weeks for the results to be known, in which case you can't be given all the news right away. If they do have time and the ward is close to the theatre, then they will usually try and stop by to give you a brief run down.

Whether you remember all they tell you or not is a whole other issue, because you're usually more than half asleep, extremely groggy and certainly not up to asking much in the way of questions.

A report is usually completed by the surgeon and sent back to your gp to go on your medical file and that takes 2-4 weeks or so. It would usually outline what was found in the op and what if anything was done about it. it may also indicate if there is anything that needs doing in more complex surgery. It may or may not have biopsy results (they would come through when they are done.)

It really does depend on the surgeon and the situation on the day.

I was not allowed to leave the ward and go home as got told the gynae wanted to see me. It was then she told me the news as didn't want me to wait until her next available clinic date. Whether this was because of the severity of the results and her wanting to apply for funding for IVF straight away I don't know. I had my husband with me and between us we remembered what was said..my husband took notes esp as he has a short term memory and I knew I wouldn't take everything in. This was a good 3-4 hours after the op so I wasn't totally out of it. I think it is down to the gynae. Dont be afraid to ask the nurses if they can tell you anything. I know my getting results so quick is quite rare and I am very fortunate. I would hate having to still wait for weeks and not know. Hope you find out quickly. x

I had my Lap done on Friday and will have to wait for the results when I see my consultant in a follow-up appointment in 6-8 weeks.

I did ask the nurse what was in my notes and she was happy to tell me. Sometimes it depends on the surgeon, how busy they are and the hospital. Good luck x

I got my results within a few hours of the op. My surgeon popped by with a load of photos of my insides which was a little hard to take in whilst recovering from my anaesthetic! I was too out of it to ask any questions. He did say "We need to get you pregnant as quickly as possible" which played on my mind for a month until my follow up appointment as he didn't give me any more info than that. I know not everyone gets to see their surgeon after the op but in case you do it might be a good idea to start thinking of questions and write them down in advance or take someone with you who can be another pair of ears to listen or take notes.

Good luck x

I had my 2nd lap on 2nd April, and the consultant came round when I was in recovery (very groggy as everyone says), said they found severe endo (or actually what she said was 'yep, you had loads of disease!' (Nice) , listed off all the places they found it, and showed me some pics. Can barely remember the conversation and didn't have anyone with me at that point. In my discharge note from the hospital, there was one or two lines about endo and taking Cerazette for three months. Ive since had an appointment letter for my follow up on 17th July, but nothing more saying what was found in my op, any more details or advice, or what the next steps are. Ive chased through my GP and they are also getting nothing. Its all a bit frustrating if Im honest. I definitely feel like there should at least be a follow up letter so you know whats going on. In the meantime, Im starting to get some pain again (and been bleeding 35 days out of 37 taking Cerazette so far) Sorry for not more positive news, but listening to some other people on this forum this isn't out of the ordinary so I just feel this needs to get better. Its very difficult to adapt to everything post-lap if you don't actually know what's going on...? Hope you have a better experience, and god luck for the lap xxx
