Leg cramps

Does anybody else get these?! It's only recently started, and it's horrible when it happens, it's so painful and I can barely walk it's like my legs have gone numb! Does anyone else suffer with it? If so can you offer any advice on how to ease it?

I get them sometimes. Pain killers help and Buscopan may help as they are for cramps/spasms but also rest your legs, put them up and a hot water bottle may help. The cramps are usually caused from the abdomen and I find a hot water bottle calms the cramping down. I hope these help x

Thank you! I think I'm going to try and take a hot bath and get back into bed and get some buscopan. Thanks for your advice! Xx

Hi Bexallina,

Not sure if you were on a thread about restless legs recently. Cramps fall into the same category and indicate a lack of magnesium. Magnesium regulates calcium potassium and sodium. Too little magnesium will mean more calcium in your cells. In muscle tissue this has a contracting effect therefore you get cramps. You'll also have too much sodium I think and this can lead to the water retention many women get around their middle especially coming up to a period.

Either take magnesium supplement or increase it via your diet. healthaliciousness.com/arti...

Taking baths with magnesium chloride flakes is also said to help and regularly spraying magnesium oil on muscles affected. You can get these from a company called Better You. betteryou.uk.com I buy the flakes in bulk which is much cheaper and decant them into small plastic bags with a double ziploc seal. peacocksalt.com/products-in...

My mother in law gets bad cramps and restless legs so when researching this for her I found out about magnesium role in this. x

Thank you so much. I will definitely be looking into this. It's only something that's come on recently since I was told I had endo, so I wasn't sure if it was related or not. Thanks for the advice! Xx

Women with endo often have a deficiency of magnesium. It's one of the key precursors to the production of glutathione in the liver. If glutathione is low we don't detox very well which can lead to excess oestrogen...which drives endo.

Cramping and numbness are different things, but numb legs suggests sciatica possibly. If you also get shooting pains through hips and buttocks, it may be your endo is affecting your sciatic nerve. Or even your posture is bad from years of hunching or weird positioning/alignment from.pelvic pain. Ask the GP as physio or accupuncture can be prescribed xxx

Ok, this sounds a bit weird, but it does work! Its kind of an acupressure thing - when you get leg cramp, take hold of your big toe with your thumb flat on the nail and your index finger and pinch together as hard as you can, until you feel the cramp relax. It won't stop you getting more cramps, but its a good quick fix for the pain!
