Had my first GNRH injection yesterday. I have two questions to ask you wonderful ladies:
1) when does the "flare" and side effects start ?
2) should I take the HRT that has been prescribed?
Thank you beautiful Endo sisters.

Hey the flare starts straight away but you may not feel the effects at first and last 10-14 days.
I always use to get shaky and starving hungry for first couple of days after injections where everything was sped up. Apart from that felt fine and kept waiting for something to happen. On day 10, i nearly fainted and felt really sick and that was my first hot flush! From then i started to get my side effects.
Take a good vitamin combo.
Keep a fan by your bed.
Avoid alcohol and spicy foods.
When you feel a flush coming on head for the fridge!
Wear layered clothes and cotton underwear.
Keep a deodrant and wet wipes with you.
Sleep when you need to.
These are my top tips!
I didnt have hrt for medical reasons so cant help there im affraidxxx
I had Decapeptyl in the end of February. When did you have your injection in your cycle? I had it in my painful week (10 days before my period). So flare up kicked if by day 3 and it was awful 10 days. I fainted twice because of pain by the time my period came. I was taking Naproxen, Diclofenac+co-codamol, then Tramadol+Solpadol but none of them worked .
When flare was subsiding, I had really bad migraines started nearly every 3 days. I lost my right eye vision for a short time so my GP decided to cancel my second injection and she has contacted my consultant (a couple weeks ago). But I haven't heard anything yet.
I was given Livial for HRT. I took it from day 2 as I was told to take. I regretted it. I was having flare up, that means I must have been flooded by estrogen so I don't think I needed to top up by HRT? I was really depressed. I took HRT about a couple of weeks and stopped it. The depression has gone in a week or so.
I didn't have any hot flush. I had Zoladex 2 years ago for 3 months (without HRT) but I never had hot flush with it either.
I am sorry my experience wasn't good one. I think I am not very good with hormone treatment. Zoladex wasn't too bad but I had frequent migraines and it gave me severe aura with migraine. Since Zoladex I often have aura with migraines. Birth control pills are no good for me for migraine issues so I am bit stuck for medical treatment.
I hope your treatment goes well. When I had Zoladex 2 years ago, I didn't have much flare as probably I had it just after my period starting. Although I had my migraine issue, I did have some pain free time so good luck to it.

Hi Barbara. Like the other 2 ladies said, I think it depends on when in your cycle you had the jab. The first time I had an injection, I started my period the same day and didnt have any further flare ups. /this time around, I had my jab a couple of days before my period was probably due (always a bit irregular, so a bit of guesswork involved!). I then didnt get my period for nearly 2 weeks after the jab - I would say this was when I got the flare up as I was a right moody cow for about a week beforehand and had various stabbing pains etc. I started taking HRT about a week after the jab, as it took me that long to get my prescription sorted. I think I mentioned to you before that I was on Prostap last year for 6 months and didnt take HRT (even though it was recommended), but I was told I MUST this time, due to the risk of loss of bone density. Depending on what you've been advised, you could maybe try going without to begin with and see how you feel - if you have trouble with side effects you could always start taking it then.
Thank you Charliesays.
When I had the jab I was about day 4 of my period.
I will definitely wait before starting HRT.
When did your hot flushes start if you had them ?
You're welcome. I havent had any hot flushes so far (maybe because of the HRT). If I remember rightly, on the last course of Prostap, the flushes started a couple of weeks after the jab, but they really werent that bad. Hope you are side effect free!
