This is not normal! You must be exhausted. Go straight back to your Dr. If your doctor is not concerned, find a better doctor! I used the Mirena once but, like you I continued to bleed. My doctor advised me to remove is immediately and this also helped fast track the first operation back in 2010. I have had 3 more ops since then and had to have a radical hysterectomy in the end.

Hey flowerpower,

I had the coil in last November, I bled continually too. I ended up taking Norethisterone for five weeks over christmas and new year. My bleeding stopped but as soon as I came off it i bled for a further 3 weeks before going back on it. Norethisterone doesnt agree with me though so Im no longer on it. I have had the odd week here and there where I've not bled but I can honestly say I'm not bleeding anywhere near as heavy and I'm not losing clots. The pain though hasnt subsided but at least I'm saving money on the pads.

No bleeding isn't normal but I think too many people are quick to blame the coil before giving it the time required. Based on how it works, it needs up to 6 months to form the layer which stops you bleeding. My bleeding is caused by the endo, the longest I went was 13weeks before the gynae took note. If you're bleeding has stemmed since the coil then maybe discuss future options with your gp. If its endo related then I'd still mention it to your gp for your records but hold on to the coil.

I'm not sure how you react to hormone treatment but I pretty much reject everything. I'm giving the coil the benefit of the doubt and so far have managed for 5months. The fact my bleeding has reduced in quantity is keeping me hanging on to it.

Maybe discuss with your Dr Northisterone if you havent already. I cant take it for any longer than a week due to side affects but it does help if I have a weekend away planned or I'm just fed up of losing.

Good luck :)

ahh this is good to know...i had mirena fitted about 2 weeks ago...spotted first few days then nothing. Then got my period as normal about a week after it was fitted...and altho the volume has already been affected (it's so much lighter with barely any pain and clots) i have now been bleeding 7 days, and its showing no signs of stopping yet. But like you say you have to give it the right amount of time to settle things properly. January seems a bit long for constant bleeding however so i would get it checked out. If pain is also there maybe an infection could of set in?? How long would you give it before going to see about Northisterone?? just if my bleeding continues i will also go dicuss this with my GP. TIA x

I experienced a sharp needle like pain for at least 3 months. I could literally pin point to where it was. I went to my GP who confirmed that it was in place correctly and not infected. Going to get it checked is probably the best thing for you, for peace of mind and to rule out any early issues. With regards to the bleedin, to save you making trips to and from the GP, request a phone call from them. (I had a few telephone conversations with them before they said to take a trip to see them). They will be able to advise whether you need bloods doing, Northisterone prescribing or just put your mind at ease. If your bleeding continues over the next few days I'd definitely make yourself known to the GP so they have a record of your experience. A colleague of mine bled for three months solid, begged for them to remove it but after listening to her gp and going with it she is now the best she has ever been. She thinks its wonderful and really encouraged me to have it too.

I always see the Mirena as marmite - you're either 100% suited or not at all. From what I have read and heard I dont think there is a happy medium.

Jodie

i am pain free so am hoping its just a case of it settling in...still bleeding but stemed a tad :) ...and get this my energy levels seem to be already improving..i have took to walking again which i was too whacked to do a couple of weeks ago..hoping this also is as a result of mirena :)....i am determined to ride it out and not be hasty or panic...it has to work as i cant bear the thought of hysterectomy yet. its less than a yr since my last big op and my body just aint ready for another...so mirena...be good and do your job well haha.

I had mine put in in January too and I too haven't stopped bleeding yet. I'm absolutely exhausted. I'm a childminder with a 14 month old of my own and I'm non stop all day. By 8pm I'm in bed. I've gone back to dis loads and I've now put my foot down and making them send me back to gynae. Sending huge hugs.

i couldnt help but notice that you've been rejected so much. is there any way you could have a blood test done? It's no wonder you are exhausted. I had mine done recently, although not anaemic I have a low platelet count which explains my tiredness (apparently!)
