Will the mirena (coil) help my endo symptoms?

I'm 18 years old and about to have my second laser treatment to remove my endometriosis. My doctor wants to remove my implant and fit the coil. Have any of you got this fitted? Does it help you?

Hi there. I've had a coil fitted for about 3 years (so another couple to go before it needs changing). It has definitely helped me. My periods are still very unpredictable (as in when or how heavy they might be) but they are generally much much lighter than they used to be & also normally a lot less painful. I have certainly not been sick at the start of a period like I used to be. I hope it works for you x

I had my first one fitted after a lap 5 years ago where I was diagnosed with severe endo. It was great, I couldn't fault it once it had settled. Takes a few months. Had very light periods and was regular. Hardly any pain or bloating at all. And I lost weight fairly easily. Then after 3 years it started to become ineffective and all the problems starting returning. Heavier periods and more swelling and mood swings. Had it taken out after 4 years. That felt a bit crampy for about 20 seconds. Went without for 4 months and have never flooded so much in my life and I've always suffered with heavy periods. Decided on having another one.

Had my second one put in and my body doesn't seem to agree with it as much any more. Yes I have lighter periods but they are now irregular. I don't mind though as it's preferable to heavy flooding. Less pain and bloating but not working as nicely as before. Also have put on half a stone steadily in the space of the year that I've had it in and my diet hasn't changed. Took at least 5 months to settle and has controlled my mood better. However I've not been monitored since and I suspect I'm probably due for another lap...

I would say try it and give it a fair chance to settle. If it doesn't suit you get it taken out, at the family planning clinic if your GP is not keen. I'm keeping mine in as the alternative is worse!
