I wrote a post the other day, saying that I'd seen the gynae consultant following rectal bleeding, and she'd examined me and said there were no nodules or signs of endo, but my uterus/womb is enlarged, and she'll be referring me for a scan.
I had a phone call from my gp surgery yesterday evening, saying that they've had a letter from the consultant suggesting I have a colonoscopy. I have to go in today to get the letter with the appointment date on.
First of all, I have no idea what to expect. I have a friend who had one done 13 years ago, but she thinks it will likely have changed a lot since then.
Secondly, is this the 'scan' that the consultant was talking about? Or is that going to be something else? I'm rather confused.
Thanks for any advice.

Hi, I had a colonoscopy test done twice and I had one done last week, they sedate you, but you are not asleep, you just feel drowsy. They make you lay down on your left side, they then put a camera inside your back passage. You feael discomfort as the camera moves around. You can look at the screen and see what they see. They will probably take biopsy sample. The test lasts no more than 5mins. When I had my test done I did find it painful, but everyone is different. They give you stuff to drink a day before the test to make you empty your bowels and you have to fast for the test.
When I had my colonoscopy I can only remember them putting the camera inside, which wasn't that bad, just like inserting a tampon but in the wrong place. The next thing I remember is being wheeled into the recovery ward. Please try not to worry, it is all in a good cause in the end as it will give them more detailed information of what is happening with you so they can put you on the right treatment. xx
