What is the recovery time for this.....?

I'm having the following op in March I was wondering if anyone else has had this and what the recovery time was?

They're going to remove as many adhesions as possible, remove my womb and right ovary from my abdominal wall because they're stuck there, remove all endo from PofD and remove part of my vagina and rebuilt it :/ xxx I'd really appreciate knowing your experiences xxxx

Hi I'm guessing you will be having a laparotomy for this? I have just had my tubes removed, adhesions cut away and endo removed and this had to be open surgery so he could unstuck tubes and also because they were so swollen. So I'm just over 2 weeks since op and and still on strong painkillers and think I may have over done things as pain is worse for last few days. So please plan to do nothing! I thought I could manage but I'm now suffering so when they tell you not to do anything for st least 6 weeks make sure you don't! You can lift a half filled kettle but nothing heavier and no housework! No driving for at least 6 weeks and I've got follow up to check I'm ok but have been told 6-8 week recovery and then a phased return to work which is difficult as I run my own business but if your employed discussing going back part time to start with is a good idea as you will feel very tired for a few more weeks. Different people may have their own experiences but this is my second op and the first was a smaller scar but still took 3 months to get back to normal. I googled recovery for hysterectomy as it's the same cut and read 6-12 weeks is average recovery and when I questioned my doctor he agreed and said 12 weeks if you do a very physical job. I have recently had very similar surgery, mine was done by laparoscopy but recovery is a good 6-8 weeks. Unfortunately mine ended up having to be done across 2 ops as needed bowel surgeon as well. Recovery from 1st op was 6-7 weeks, had 2nd op at 8 weeks and recovery from that has been longer but I did have some complications after, so far I'm at 9.5 weeks recovery from 2nd op and planning on going back to work in 3 weeks time so just over 12 weeks in total for 2nd op and I'm going back on phased return (as it will have been 5 months in total, eek!)

As lily flower has said you just need to take it very slow and not overdo it and see how you go but I would expect 6-8 weeks recovery if laparoscopy and nearer 12 if open surgery. X

I had a laparotomy for much the same thing- I was only expecting a key hole laparoscopy so was a bit of a shock when I woke up I can tell you.

Recovery wise it was a long one. I had the op in mid July.

It took till X-mas before I could lift a toddler and not be in post op pain. The post op pains were of several different sorts. The hole itself, the laser burns on endo, the wounds from having cysts removed from POD and ovary, unsticking of ovary - cutting lots of adhesions everywhere, removing one ovary and part of womb and so on.

Each type of proceedure had its own journey of recovery.

The longest by far was getting my bladder working again properly by itself. That aspect took 17 months, but for the main op and healing inside of wounds 4 months minimum may be a little more or less.

We are all different and heal at different rates - but I don't think it would be fair to tell you that you will be bouncing around inside a month.

I was up on my feet same day as the op - okay I had a catheter in and so on, but i was upright and out of bed and pottered off outside for a smoke, but boy did everything hurt, from trapped gas to a feeling like everything in my tummy was about to fall down.

Took 8 weeks to be well enough to be driving. I could drive sooner, but not safely because turning to look over my shoulder and reversing and reaching back for the seat belt were all way too sore for a while.

I did manage to go shopping with help leaning on a trolley round the super market, and mum did all the driving and carrying of bags for me - that was at 2 weeks post op. It shattered me.

So it's not all bad news- but it does take time to get back to the normal fit and healthy and fully recovered you. It is a big op having that much done- whether by key hole or open surgery.

Thank you for the reply! I've just realised how nieve I have been I thought it would be similar recovery time to a lap maybe a little longer, thought I'd be ok to go bk to work in 2/3 weeks :/ xxxx the replies are very much appreciated ladies thank you xxxxxx
