Two days ago I had my left ovary and falopian tube removed due to painful cysts on the ovary and discomfort.
The surgeon also treated patches of endometriosis . I've been told that the op shouldn't effect my periods and shouldn't require h.r.t .

Good morning.
I believe that your one remaining ovary will still be able to produce all the hormones necessary to give you periods and prevent you from needing HRT.
Can I ask if you had your operation laparoscopically?
Regards,
Barbara
i have one ovary too as I had a 10.5 cm cyst on the other...I am not on HRT or that other drug beginning with G that is meant to put you into a false menopause so the HRT can work....that was suggested to me to help with bad pmt...but I refused and hopefully will try herbal...so don't worry
my llft ove and tube were taken out too..Definitely don't need HRT. The remaining ovary is quite sufficient to give you normal periods AND feed the endo. So you might want to consider stopping your periods with BC pills back to back or a Mirena Coil. Ideally you should keep one ovary which is plenty enough to provide the body with heart protection and bone strength protection till menopause sets in.
Many ladies are only born with only one anyway. The great news is that without the left one, no more cysts on that side -pain free !!!
However my remaining ove was cleaned up from and 8cm cyst, and has given me cyst troubles since then. Not a lot I can do about that but put up with them, I'd rather have cysts than be on HRT because I'd lost both.
I don't have periods because the Mirena is working--which is utterly liberating, but Mirena is known to cause more cysts than normally would appear. But I had developed cysts without the mirena being in, in the 1st place. It's fab not having periods any more so it is worth considering giving it a go.
I have one ovary, it was removed in April and I have had major hot flushes and menopausal symptoms, but I think in general you will feel pretty much as you always did and that my remaining ovary was probably more damaged than first thought. I was told by my surgeon (as you may have been) that it takes around 5-6 months sometimes before the remaining ovary takes over. So if you get any menopausal symptoms, don't panic, it will more than likely be temporary. Fingers crossed you won't get any though. Hope you have a smooth as possible recovery. My periods have been normal since my op by the way x
Hi. I am going in to have my left ovary and tubes removed at the start of July. Can you tell me how long the recovery time is for it. All I've been told is that I will be in hospital overnight but not how long i should be off work for? Also have you noticed improvements since having the op?
Thank you in advance xx
Jen x
Hi Jen,
I was in hospital for one night, but they would have let me go home the same day if I didn't live a 2 hours drive away. I felt fine after a week, not completely healed but I really felt great after a few days and it felt no different to the other keyhole surgeries I've had.
Usually a GP will sign you off for 2 weeks initially, but it can take 6 weeks to heal and longer for the internal healing.
Like I said though, I really felt great after mine. As most of my problems were centered of that ovary, particularly adhesions, it really helped to lose it. I've had surgery since and the endo found was really minimal compared to how it had been.
Hope that helps, feel free to message if you'd like to ask anything and good luck! xx
Thank you for the information! I'm very nervous about it even though I've had the keyhole before for a previous laparoscopy. Think it's the thought of something being removed.
How were your moods for the months after? I'm very hormonal and know I can be difficult to live with, which is another thing I'm dreading xx
I was nervous too and have had open surgery before, but I couldn't imagine how it'd feel. To be honest though I woke up pain free and feeling great, I've never really 'grieved' for it as some women do.
I was worried about my moods too as I get depressed a lot, but I didn't notice any difference at all. The only thing I notice is hot flushes, two years on and I still have them, we don't know the cause but it must be related. I was told to expect them for abut 5 months in case the other ovary is 'shocked', but most people don't seem to get those, so hopefully you won't xxx
I had my right ovary and FT removed in 2011. I had a torsion due to a large cyst which caused the ovary to flip and eventually die because I didn't go to the hospital in time. I thought my appendix had burst.
I have had some problems since then. My boyfriend says I am a completely different person. Moods swings are intense. I had to go on antidepressants and I still am having problems--might be un-related but they started around the time of the surgery.
I have also gained a TON of weight. like 50lbs with no diet change.
I don't know if the surgery is to blame for either of these but I am tempted to think so because they both started right after I had the surgery.
anyone else having these issues?
