Hi all, I'm just after finding out if I'm alone with this really or if this is likely to be endo related (I have already been diagnosed with endo about 5 years ago but it's been really under control after my 2 surgeries)...I've had some right sided pain on and off for a while now. I wasnt sure if its endo related so saw a gp who thinks it is or if not that its muscular. I had liver, kidney and gallbladder checks just incase which seemed normal. Now I've had it a while I've noticed it seems to ease off and get worse at certain times of the month so for the last few months I've kept a diary. The general right sided pain seems to get worse around the time I probably ovulate based on my cycle. It hangs around and a in the week before my period like clockwork I get the usual sore boobs but also a squeezing/pressure type pain around where I think my ovary is. I've had scans a year or 2 ago that show cysts on my right ovary which the doc said was fairly common with endo. I'm wondering whether when I ovulate I'm getting irritation or a build up of cysts on my ovary. After my period it seems to ease off again. My endo clinic is shut due to COVID and my GP said she'll try and book a pelvic scan but that this might not happen due to COVID. The GP asked if I had a few other symptoms and said she wasnt concerned about anything nasty so it would just be good to know if anyone else with endo gets this ovary area type pain at certain times during their cycle. Thanks!
Ovary pain!?: Hi all, I'm just after... - Endometriosis UK
Ovary pain!?
Hey - I suffered with really bad pain on my right side so initially was checked for gallbladder and appendix etc too, then got referred to gynea. Eventually I got an endometriosis diagnosis, my pain was always on my right side - I’ve since had my ovary removed because I bled for 18 months and was in constant pain x
Thanks, I know it doesnt help me fix it but just knowing what it might be helps. I should have said but I have already been confirmed as having endo about 5 years ago but it was so much better and really under control after my 2 surgeries so it will be really disappointing if this is it resurfacing I remember it was definitely the right side I had the cysts on when I was scanned a while ago so maybe that's got worse and that's causing the new pain. It almost feels like the sort of pressure type pain you get with trapped gas except it doesnt move and ease off like gas. Now it's been going on longer and I can see it comes and goes around my period it seems more and more likely that its endo related. Thanks for your response. I hope things are much better for you now
Hello,I have billateral ovarian endometriomas and before knowing I had them,I was having strong pain in the ovaries around ovulation.Once it was so strong I ended up in A&E where I was given the news I had them.
Now I have been on the pill without breaks since january and they are reducing in size. No more pain as I am not ovulating anymore.
I also have some endo nodules and adhesions in my pelvic area.
Did the doctor 2 years ago said which type of cyst you had? If they are endometriomas, a transvaginal ultrasound scan would identify them.
In my case and from others’ experience, endometriomas can grow very quickly, so the sooner you get the scan the better.
Thanks so much for relying. I cant remember exactly what kind of cysts I had as they didnt go into much detail (they werent a problem at the time) but endometriomas sounds familiar as I seem to remember it had a name like endometriosis. I've been off the pill for a while now as I was having all sorts of side effects so maybe that's why this has started off. I'm very tempted to try the pill again to see if it helps. X
Hi! As far as I know the pill should prevent them from growing,if they are endometriomas,in the meantime you arrange the scan.
Thanks, I've tried to get a scan but at the moment they said it's unlikely they'll book it due to COVID-19 so I'll see if they accept the request from my GP. X
Out of interest, did having the cysts mess with your periods at all? Mine are all over the place and I wonder if it's that or if it's just me (it's been ages since I was off the pill so I dont know what my 'normal' cycle is like really! X
No,for me cycles were always regular.Even when I stopped the pill in 2016 it came back regular.
Thanks, I have a feeling that's just me the. Is the pill you're on the combined pill or mini pill? Just spoke to my gp who has recommended the combined pill over mini pill so hopefully that helps. x
Yes, I get this and it translates as a radiating pain into my right hip and occasionally lower back. Feels a bit like a permanent cramp with a trapped nerve on top. Heat pads/hot water bottle help a little ( only a little), as does sleeping on the floor with a pillow folded between my knees on bad days (I know that sounds mad but it’s the only way I’ve found of being able to sleep!). I’ve not been told I have cysts but have had 2 laps which revealed very solid “bone-like” scarring joining my right ovary to my bowel. Now that I’ve come off prostap, I’m assuming ovulation + period are the source of pain (like you I’ve been keeping a diary and that seem to tally, but like you, my endo nurse has been reassigned to COVID!)
Hi! I was diagnosed with endo in January 2020 through a laparoscopic surgery. Since the surgery I have had a tightness/light pain on the day I ovulate on the side I am ovulating from. It was more uncomfortable/painful right after the surgery but is a lot less now. My surgeon said that it was normal. It seems like we are having the same symptoms.
Hi, I used to always get pain on my left tho around & before ovulation but was always a lot worse & a lot longer at this time more so than I was due my period.
I have endometriosis and PCOS. Although ive read that pcos should not cause pain, i have always had heavy and tender ovary pain. Especially around ovulation or with certain abdominal exercises.
Worth asking for a test for pcos
Thanks, I will do. I'm hoping to get a pelvic scan to look at my ovaries but its anyones guess whether they approve my gp's request with COVID-19 at the moment. I know I did have cysts before on my right ovary which is the side with the pain so I wouldnt be surprised if this is cyst related. I did ask them about PCOS when they saw the cysts before but apparently I didnt have enough of the other symptoms but maybe that's changed. X
Yeah that can be tricky - took me a long time to get PCOS diagnosed. That was my first diagnosis when I was 19. That took 3 years. Eventually I had blood tests and an Ultra-sound, but because I don't have the typical symptoms either such as weight issues, insulin resistance, excess hair, facial hair, raised testosterone levels etc they weren't interested. I still have PCOS but there are 4 types, according to the experts. The GP tends to know about TYPE 1 and look for those symptoms, and then dismiss you. Usually they suggest putting you on the pill to regulate your hormones, and then send you away. I had very irregular periods, that were very painful and heavy, as well as pelvic pain. If you have any symptoms of PCOS, they should still consider it. Just be pushy!!
With the endometriosis, that became apparent once I got my PCOS under control, finally got onto a regular cycle, and realised something else had to be wrong. It was too painful and too heavy to be normal. I had pain during sex, after sex, painful bowel movements to name a few symptoms.
I got a laparosopy when I was 29 ... 10 years later, diagnosed with Endo as well. I have some on my right ovary and some on my bowel. No surgery to treat it, as they felt the risk was too great for the results they thought I could achieve, so Im waiting for a referal to a healthy bowel clinic and a physiotherapist.
You'll find a common theme is that those of us who have a diagnosis had to be very persistent. The research suggest it takes women with Endometriosis takes an average of 7 years to get a diagnosis. Im not sure about PCOS, because its easier
But I do suggest you ask for blood tests as well as the scan. In the meantime, My preferred pain management is a hot water bottle. As its so hot, I like to use deep heat gel, and ibuprofen.
Good luck.
Well i had this type of discomfort or pain in my left overy more before periods ,but after surgery its much better i had cyst on my overy too it felt like so much pressure on the side.Hope you get your scan date soon ,good luck c
