Hi. Just after some advice or if anyone experiences this symptom!
I'm due on my menstrual cycle in the next few days have severe menstruation cramps (this is normal for me) I have noticed blood streaks on my stool. I know this can happen during menstruation if endometriosis effects bowel but just wondered if anyone has the symptoms before
Thankyou

Hi, I have a period through my bowel every month when I bleed. Had it for over 15yrs plus. When I open my bowels, the toilet is full of blood. I'm still suffering years on. I've had MRI scans and nothing shown up. Had a colonoscopy and nothing there. An Endo nurse told me it could be internal hermoroids which flare up when due on? But I'm not so sure? Are your bowels different when you're due on or on? Like are you more constipated or loose?
It depends sometimes i can be normal or can be constipated or loose but iv never had this before I tried to get a GP appointment but there were none available
I question why you aren't neither taking the Pill constantly or a drug like Zoladex to stop Endo growing?
I have had both mainly constipation all my life and difficultly emptying the bowel from about 3 days before a period.
Adhesions on the bowel cause distortion, nerve issues and inflammation. The bowel can have blood in it during the period time as the blood pre hormone changes can in some cause blood as I also in my 30's bled in my lungs and had to be Hostipalized.
Straining is bad. Firstly take regular anti inflammatories, perhaps anti Histamines, Fennel Tea also stops inflammation and cramps, Belladonna stops cramps, buy online (but don't over take it).
About the week before the period take Fybogel Sachets Mebeverine this can be on prescription. Again up your soluble fibre perhaps cut carrots with a dip for work or boil carrots, fruit but always soluble fiber. Look online at Foodmap . Eat smaller meals 6 times a day, increase water.
Depending on your age you might have the beginnings of Colitis.
Many woman with Endo find eating a gluten free diet helps with bloating, pain and inflammation. Do not eat Soya or other food that contain Estrogens or Histamines consult the Web. Endo impacts on the function of the body to run at 100% so helping it by changing what you eat can help.
Physical exercise might be difficult but small movements even soft stomach rubbering. Planning regular times to poo could help.
Drinking 2 cups of Tea, a pint of warm water with half a lemon in first thing may stimulate the bowel to poo.
The one thing that's important I've found is to be mindful of yourself, give time and space. Reflexology, Yoga, Pilates, time to relax, sleep and rest.
With Endo the body struggles to do the normal things, repair itself, deal with everything.
Hi. I take progesterone only pill but it hasn't stopped my periods. I take fibre supplement too. I don't usually have bowel issues I go everyday normally. I'm in my low 30s. I am prone to have adhesions to bowel I had 6 separate adhesions to bowel separated last year and endo was on uterosacral ligaments. Thankyou for your advice there's definitely some points I will try
In all cases of blood in the stool it’s so important to get it checked out just in case. My sister died of bowel cancer when she was just 38. It’s unlikely to be cancer but so important to rule it out.
The good thing is then you will be taken seriously. It’s a symptom that cannot be dismissed.
As has already been said it is possible to have haemorrhoids inside and or outside so it could be that but it is possible to treat those. I’d imagine bleeding makes sense from endo lesions too.
Definitely one for the doctors. Or perhaps the nurse line to tell you generally whether it can be a symptom.
Thankyou I tried to get a GP appointment but none available i do know endo can cause bloody stools when on just not heard of it before. I have a mri next week under endo specialist so this may give an answer
I did try yesterday and there were none available trying again today 🤞. Its hard sometimes to think if it's connected or not but find it's nice to hear from others with this chronic disease 💛
I had a positive fit test & think it was because of exactly this- endo & my weird cycles or lack of them, meant it affected those results. I’d totally forgotten originally I had endo removed from the bowel also in 2012 never talked what grade back then but did have 3 years zoladex injections also following that. NEVER again as caused bad osteopenia 😔
went through gastro/colonoscopy clearing for cancer but then no further forward on other related symptoms… managed to get myself back into the gynae endo clinic next month but haven’t high hopes & need help being early menopause anyway!
aware I have cysts endo & a rather large fibroid they will encounter to say the least (private mri showed that) wondering what the lining thickness is etc as suspect I’m into hysterectomy territory?!
Certainly don’t go panicking but do still ask for a fit test for peace of mind with symptoms & for your fbc iron count etc at the same time record symptoms to show your gp!
I was found to be folate deficient so started folic acid & know thyroid levels need a better look same with my full iron panel magnesium bit d levels etc our gps are just horrendous even with chasing since losing our long term chap no one else knows our history & they’re getting very lazy with follow-up tests & actually giving referrals!
If it were cheaper then id follow a friends doing & use a local private gp as he’s never had any issues they’re more on the case!
For now though its likely I have to fund a full private set of lab tests for thyroid & iron levels alongside any other recommendations as the nhs don’t look into things fully enough & how can anything have a “normal” when we are all INDIVIDUALS?!!
I also wondered on recent smear test discovery whether a tilted backward cervix also contributes to endo & gynae symptoms- a question for next month where I pray they scan then book me for an overdue laparoscopy or equivalent.
Sorry so brain dead hope that all made sense- in a nutshell do NOT over worry yourself & speak with a gp listing symptoms explaining it could be the endo but please run basic checks due to the symptoms- for your peace of mind I guess 🙂 xx
Makes total sense. I have a retroverted uterus and prone to cysts too. I went thru gastro in 2023 and was never taken further due to no abnormal bowel symptoms. As far is im aware I don't have bowel endo (last lap last year) but do have a mri scheduled next week. I have a GP appointment later so will mention these tests. Thankyou
hi, just a thought if your symptoms could be related to the progesterone pills you are taking, anything about issues with bowels in the pills that formation list?
