I was told I had extensive laser diathermy in my op, have absolutely no idea if it was helica laser or not. The surgeons don't tend to be that specific when writing up notes.

Diathermy is diathermy as far s I'm concerned. What they actually use to burn the endo back doesn't really make a huge difference to the patient, more of what the surgeon finds easiest to use or is trained to use, or the hospital supplies as equipment to use.

Diathermy is good for shallow surface lesions of endo, it can remove them completely (bearing in mind you have hundreds of lesions, this is a quick way to be rid of the superficial spots of endo.)

But for deep rooted lesions, having them cut out or excised out is the only wy to get rid of those. Diathermy just burns back the surfact layer of endo, and for deeper endo it is not enough, and is still active and growing underneath laser work.

Post Op, it was like having severe sunburn sensations (but inside you where you can't get at it with aftersun cream. Then later on it gets intensely itchy inside, just like peeling skin does when you recover from sunburn.

This is annoying because you can't itch it.

Painwise it was not too bad, itchy wise , very frustrating.

In the UK diathermy is the most common surgical means of tackling endo. it isn't idea because it doesn't really impact on deep endo, but it does help. and women can get a lot of relief from pain for quite some time afterwards. till it returns.

They can use a laser to cut through adhesions and cut them right back, but like cutting back a bramble hedge, the effect only lasts so long, adhesions will always grow again in all directions to fill whatever space it wants.
