The posts I read are the same story but variations to them. Has anyone actually improved after all the treatment they’ve chosen especially the big operations? It seems like it’s better to bloody not have the op at all???

I had severe endo and had it excised via lap with unsticking of organs in my abdomen too. I've found it has helped my symptoms a lot. I still get some, but that's because it treats it, it will never get rid of it all. My specialist says as there's no cure he expects to see women after surgery to start having symptoms enough to go to GP again after two years (from first lap) with surgery required usually again after three to four (after first lap) but it can vary from person to person as the symptoms vary and are not dependent on the extent of the endo.
Bear in mind though they can only remove what they see, some patches may be too small and thus not all endo can be removed, also it comes back a different rates for different people.
Other methods of treatment non surgical will help it grow less and hormones will stop cycles and thus reduce the pain, however it's still there and just as bad; it can't shrink. For most it tends to get worse just slower compared to nothing being done.
Mentally I found surgery better as I knew they had removed as much as they could so it's kind of a new starting point; I can get to know my cycles and what my endo pain feels like. I've been on pills for over 10 years with all the side effects and endo symptoms - which I just thought was something everyone had.
Thankyou me being from nz and in a rural area I do not have the support on all this I just google. I have had my surgeon say he is gonna to do what he needs to but saying there is no cure and I knew that. I have like less than 24hours now to change my mind on surgery for next week and still feel like it’s such a big deal having it I’m still so two minded about it.
it's really how you feel about it putting aside its an operation - because that's scary enough!
Whatever decision you make it has to be yours and we'll all be here to help you through things xx
Yea that’s it I’m bloody sacred. And I am worried they won’t find anything and then I’m worried they will and it will be bad. I’m generally freaking out and I also want to ignore it all as impossible that that is to do. I hide away from the world and I’m so tired. And then there’s the emotional side of it all. I’m not the person I used to be. Both physically and mentally.
Before the op see if you can talk to your surgeon, explain you're scared; my surgeon was also my consultant so was able to talk me through what they would do and what I'd expect, before and after. That really helped put my mind at rest.
You can only go with what they find, but just think if you have the op and they find stuff, you'll know where you stand and start a path of what to do next. If they don't find anything then you're still in pain etc so the next path of investigation starts. Remember it's your body, you know how you feel xx
Thankyou so much this words make me wanna cry.
Just remember things happen for a reason (I'm not religious, just spiritual) - you have choices in your life; worry less, appreciate the small things, smile, live each day, be grateful for what you have now, be mindful, notice how you feel see how you want to feel and put in place a path to achieve it, welcome help from others.
You'll get there; but you may not be the person you once were; you are a new you, make it the best you!!!
hi. i had tried many different types of pills e.g.hormone/contraceptive, anti inflammatory, blood loss reduction tablets, all which worked for a short period of time but eventually were useless. i had prostap menopause injections which were horrendous and 2 laparoscopies to cut out stage 4 endo which gave no relief. in the end i was advised i needed a hysterectomy (i also had adeno). although it has been a tough surgery/recovery, and i may still have some minor issues, it has given me my life back. for years i have struggled with the symptoms which also took their toll on my mental health but i feel like my old self again now. (im not advocating hyster as a solution as it clearly isnt a cure for endo but it all depends on the individual, their symptoms, extent of disease, and skill of surgeon). one thing that has been prevelant through my surgeries is that the disease has continued to grow/spread.
My op (laparoscopic excision of endo and removal of ovarian cyst) helped me so much. I had it almost a month ago and - aside from gas pain and uncomfortable tummy for the first 72 hours or so - have been pain free since for the first time in my adult life. I'm still healing but very pleased with things as they stand.
I also found the combined pill very good for period pain when I tried it a few years ago.
