New to group - Advice on blood test results

Hi all

I have had to have a couple of routine blood tests over the past 6 months due to bowel issues. I have just had a look at my test results and I am slightly concerned about my creatine and eGFR levels. I am a healthy and fit 29 year old female, no health problems (as far as I know!), in July my creatine levels were 74umol/L with a GFR of 85 and then December tests showed my creatine at 85umol/L with a eGFR of 72. Both times the doc has said my results were normal but after doing a bit of research those numbers worry me. Should I be concerned regarding my kidneys? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum for Chronic Kidney Disease. Here is a link for National Kidney Foundation that explains the eGFR. This might answer your concerns. kidney.org/atoz/content/gfr

Hi. You can put yourself into extreme panic and worry by searching information on the internet. Always try to refer only to reliable sources. One can find on the internet a post that will state one thing as fact, and then the very next find a post which is completely the opposite. What do you have to gain by searching a worrying? Your doctor said all is fine. He has access to all your blood work and medical history. Put your faith in him. A Creatinine level can easily change from one blood test to the next. Up one day, down the next, then up again, etc. It is the trend that you want to follow.

A blood test is just a photograph of your blood at that time. Your levels go up and down all the time quietlySome people may have blood levels which maybe outside the norm range but it is normal for them! I have slightly high cholesterol levels but when you look back in my history they have stayed the same. So in that case, I do not take any medication for it because that is my normal. It is also important when looking at blood test results, not to look at them in isolation. Since we don't have access to the rest of your medical history, it would be wrong for us to comment on here about your situation. If your Doctor is not worried about it and you are healthy then carry on as usual. Keep warm, healthy and safe!
