I hope it’s ok that I share my good news? I finally went to the hospital to a nephrologist - 6 months after realizing I had CKD stage 3.. my eGFR was about 50-53. No other symptoms.. My doctor showed me my test results that went way back - and they showed above normal creatinine and below normal eGFR for years and years without me being aware of it at all. No advice from my doctor about what to do..
Well - thanks to all of you for sharing possibilities, for telling me (and everyone else) to be proactive, to take control - I did! I changed!
My recipe has been:
-drink more water
-eat more plant based
- no red meats
-reduced salt (absolutely no chips and salted peanuts!)
- I have not eaten chocolates either…
- have had about 5-6 small glasses of wine the past five months..
Blood tests on 10 Oct showed an increase in eGFR - up to 58!!
And today I saw a nephrologist and he reported on new tests I took last week. YAY!
I feel so lucky - so incredibly fortunate - because I can obviously do smth about my condition. And I am only at stage 3. I think of all of you who are facing and dealing with dialysis. My father did - and I dread being in that situation even though I also know that it IS doable. It’s not the end of the world!
But today my results show creatinine at 81 umol/L and eGFR at 66. I hope I can keep it there!
the nephrologist said the most important thing to do is to keep them hydrated!! He recommended 2 l total per day for me.
Thanks for “listening”! I really felt like sharing my good news with some one who understands…
