Hi. I have a kidney infection at the moment, im just finished an antibiotic for a bladder infection but back pain was still there so I went back to GP and turns out bladder infection progressed into kidney infection-another course of antibiotics. I got my blood tests done 4 weeks ago and just happened to check over the egfr and my result is 80. I am 35 years old. According to google, that is stage 2 CKD. My GP never mentioned it but now im stressing over that result and having the kidney infection that there is something seriously wrong with my kidney's.

Panicking over blood results
Have another test done when the infection is done and see what the results are. Bet they improve.
I understand the panic. But first, take a deep breath. There is honestly nothing to panic about. Many labs don't even report eGFR unless it's under 60. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is not diagnosed with one test. It looks at trends over time (usually 3 months).
Your eGFR can be affected by several factors - including infection and dehydration. Once your infection has cleared completely, get your labs done again when you are well hydrated. Things you can do in the meantime - eliminate NSAIDs, make sure your blood pressure (BP) is well controlled, maintain good blood sugars if diabetic, eat a healthy diet (little to no red meat), stay physically active, and well hydrated.
Your initial reaction of panic is common and completely normal! Allow yourself a little time to feel your feelings, and then tell yourself it's time to move on from panic into action. You have a wonderful opportunity now to focus on your health and protecting your kidneys, even if your next lab results turn up normal. A kidney-friendly diet is also a heart-friendly diet - you can't go wrong with that! 😉

Not CKD unless it’s CHRONIC you have a kidney infection and on antibiotics. If you do eGFR tests after surgery if you have the flu etc most likely it will not be normal and that’s normal. However, when you are well the kidneys recover. They filter every minute trace of blood in your body to REMOVE TOXINS and if you are taking meds with an infection in the kidneys those create toxins. Stay off google it is the devils tool to those who self-diagnose.
Hi, just wanted to come here and say don’t over stress it and worry yourself! My kidney issues started with just a simple UTI that turned into a kidney infection. However it took 3 antibiotic courses and then I got kidney stones. Today I struggle to urinate (around once a day) I have blood in my urine and I’m on morphine because of the pain. Unfortunately I’m 21 with all these problems but sadly I had a lot of doctors say to me “you’re young you will heal”🤦🏻♀️
even with all this they don’t know whether I have kidney disease etc. even a year after. After a year I’m still waiting for 2 different tests a camera and ultrasound.
Please don’t worry yourself as I’ve been there and I’ve learnt not to stress and it makes it worse.
Hope you feel better soon😊
